Which country on earth is the home of the free?
If we wish to be free of murders, we don't go to Colombia. It has more murders per capita than any other place on earth. Where is the home of the free -- from murder? Norway. Yes, the Vikings, since the advent of Christianity, have become a rather peaceful peoples.
If we wish to be free of carbon dioxide pollution, we don't go to the USA or Australia, the worst two countries per capita in that regard. The land of freedom from carbon dioxide pollution? Pick just about any country in Africa.
If we wish to be free to make our own decisions, then the land of freedom of choice must be Finland, followed by Canada and thirdly the USA.
If you wish to be free in the pursuit of happiness then perhaps the land of the free for you is Venezuela, where 55% believe that they are very happy. The unhappiest people on earth seem to be the Bulgarians.
Biblically, if an individual does not have Christ in his life, he is not free. So, in reality, as far as we Christians are concerned, there is no truly free country -- it is popular fiction. That is why we realize that in nations that claim to be free, such as America, Australia, New Zealand and Norway, the Gospel message must still be proclaimed.
To those who believe that they live in the land of the free, we Christians have an important message -- real freedom is only found in Jesus Christ.
