Yes Rosie, it's not about candy and big bunnies that hide eggs, but it is about us, and about Jesus who was the first to cheat death!

You know Rosie, It's really funny you said this, I took that stand for oh so many years. In the end I found that I could let my kids enjoy the saesons and still teach them the lessons. We didn;t make a big deal about the Easter Bunny, but we had real blow out celebrations at Easter. We would cook a leg of Lamb, invite half the neighborhood over, and make sure that everyone know we were celbrating Resurrection! It also didn't hurt that this ended up being one of the best meals anyone had for the whole year (I do a pretty mean leg of lamb, a bit of asparagus, and hollnadaise sauce to kill). We blew out Christmas, and even on All Saints, our kids dressed as saints of the Church, or people from the Bible. I don't disrespect people who shy away from those things, but my kids now have a healthy respect for times and seasons and remember those holidays as the real hight points in our family. They are now carrying these on in their families, my recipes have been ensconced in their kitchen cookbooks and they strive to do them just like Dad. kinda neat huh?

I'm always sad to see how few children's books there are in the local bookstore telling the real Easter story.  No wonder children only think of bunnies and candy.  Every child can be told the Easter story and should be.

Thanks Rosie, I think I see your point, it seems our best Holidays have become marketing schemes.
