| The Worst and Best of Times |
|
| |
For days now the Lord has been speaking to me about it being the beginning of the "worst of times", and along with this it is also the "best of times". I know that it sounds backwards from what we remember reading in school. But the Lord keeps repeating as the times grow darker and darker, the levels of greed intensify, the more the world concerns itself with me, myself and I, the more that those that are called of Him will shine forth in His light bringing with them the best of times.
OFTEN IN OUR OWN EYES, THIS PAST SEASON HAS BEEN THE WORST OF TIMES! It seems as though we have lost everything. We feel let down and left out. We do all we know to make "it" happen, and yet "it" just doesn't happen, the fruit we long to see just does not materialize. We know our calling, and there is no open door. We wait upon the Lord, until our flesh cries out "I will do it"! Knowing all along the way that we can do nothing! We are weary, we are thirsty, and we are hungry. We are battle-fatigued!! And yet the battle is never ending, or so it seems. Pastors are falling; hidden secrets of ministry leaders are causing them to be forced to step down. And in our natural eyes, in and of ourselves we see this as the worst of times.
WHAT HAS BEEN OUR WORST OF TIMES HAS ACTUALLY BEEN A SEASON OF GROWING AND SHRINKING. Growing in our faith, growing in our ability to completely put our trust in Him, growing out of our selfness and selfishness, into a unity of the body of Christ and recognizing needs of others before we recognize our own needs. We are truly being taught what waiting upon the Lord really means. We are learning to bow down and give Him the first place in our lives. We are learning to lay down our selfish desires and to desire only those things that He has placed in our hearts!
Our flesh is finally beginning to shrink, our concerns about ourselves, our needs have shrunk almost into nothingness, as we realize not only the needs of the Kingdom of God, but also the need the world has to meet the Savior face to face. As we are facing ruin in ourselves, financial ruin, destruction of reputations, walls of self protection tumbling down, all those things that we feel ought not to be happening to us, as we cry out that the end times are here and the darkness is taking over the world...so it is! To us, this is the worst of times!
BUT! IN HIS EYES, THIS HAS BEEN THE BEST OF TIMES! FOR WE HAVE FINALLY BEGAN TO COME TO AN END OF OURSELVES. We have finally begun to walk the walk of absolute obedience to the Father. We have come to realize that is not what we can do, but rather what He can do, as we allow Him to take over, as we allow Him to move through us. Oh what lessons we have learned, and what lessons from the Father are still to come. The finances we once desire to support ourselves has become an ever increasing desire to give into His kingdom, to go where He sends, to send others, to give out to help those in need, instead of feeding our own lusts and desires. It is becoming a time of humbling ourselves before the Lord. It is no longer a time to shout come and see how great I am, but come, taste the goodness of the Lord, come and shout it from the mountaintop, How great is the Lord!
AS THE WORLD IS GROWING DARKER WITH EACH NEW DAY, SO WE ARE BRINGING FORTH A MUCH BRIGHTER LIGHT THAN EVER BEFORE. And this light is the light of God, exposing, examining, and cutting loose the evil that lies within each of us, shedding more light upon the earth, as we learn to step out of our comfort zones. To step into the unknown, the unseen, keeping our eyes, our hearts, and our minds stayed on Jesus, to walk upon the water with the blessed assurance that yes He is there!
So my dear friends, it has been the worst of times. Are you prepared to fully and purposely step into the Best of Times?
