| Whenever There is Doubt, Don’t |
|
| |
In the book My Utmost for His Highest Daily Devotional by Oswald Chambers, he gives this quote…”whenever there is doubt, don’t”. I thought that sounded so simple, and yet, when I try to do it, I find I am unable.
When we are not sure if God is speaking to us, we shouldn’t do whatever is in our heads to do. How can we ever be totally sure what we are hearing is from God? How can we be sure it is His desire for us, and not our own selfish will?
Most importantly, we need to pray about it. We need to pray for wisdom and understanding, and that God will make His will clear to us. God will give us guidance, if we take the time to pray for it and let Him lead us. We also need to get into God’s word, and make sure we know what is there, so that we have that basis for making decisions on.
If something keeps eating at us, something that we are supposed to do, if we don’t act on it, God will keep nudging us. We need to listen and act, but only if we are certain the thought or desire is from God. I have discovered that when I don’t do something my soul is telling me to do, if the thought goes away, then it probably wasn’t something I should have done. However, if the thought keeps coming back to me, and I know in my heart that I should be taking action, I should listen and do! If there is any sort of doubt about something, it is wise to sit back and wait. It will not hurt anything to wait and make sure that whatever you do is the wisest choice.
If in doubt, don’t. |

Simple, yet profound.
A former pastor of mine said if she had a difficult decision to make, let's say option "A" or option "B", this is the way she would reach that decision:
First, she begin verbally confessing that she had chosen option "A" and repeat this several times, maybe even several times a day or even for several days. And while making this confession, she would observe the way she was feeling in her spirit.
Likewise, she would speak the same confession about option "B". Of course she would be in prayer also during this time but claims that almost always God would eventually just simply give her a letter for an answer. Basically she would know which one felt right within her spirit.
It's been while since I have recalled her telling me that but your words today are almost along that very same train of thought.
Thanks Deb!

| Michael, an interesting way of approaching this! I don't know that I ever actually put a letter to the options, but I guess we do the same sort of thing. Cool. Thanks for sharing that with me! |

| Great blog!! One that I needed.... I'm seeking God's face in this area. Thanks for the post. |

Deb I don't think she actually or literally was placing a letter on the options. I just meant for example: move to Seattle or Stay in New York.
First she would say "OK, it's final, I am moving to Seattle" or "I have made up my mind, I am staying in New York" Then just let her spirit bring forth the answer. She is real big in the power of confessions.
Anyway, love ya! |

Hey Deb, I don't think we agree. I use to do what you are talking about but I've given that up. Did you see my blog and did you ignore it because you differed? http://www.mychurch.org/blog/148621/Easter-Inactivity---Please-Look-at-the-videos-at-the-bottom-of-the-comments Feel free to comment on anything over there, I know it's long and goes on and off topic; but I welcome your comments anyways. Thanks, R... |

Cheryl, thank you! Happy Seeking!
Michael, thank you for clearing that up :)
Cyn, thanks girl...how is your mom?
R, I have just glanced at your blog, read it but not all the comments yet. I wasn't ignoring it, I just hadn't seen it in the list of numerous blogs that hit the site every day. I will read and comment on it though. I cannot watch videos, at least not well, since I am on dial up, so a lot of the videos that appear on here I cannot watch. It takes about two minutes to download three seconds worth of video...not worth it for me.
Anyway, as to us not agreeing...I can see your point, so I don't know if we disagree or not. If we see an evil or a need, we ought to do something about it. I think that is common sense (although for some it might not be). My blog was more about those times in life when you are faced with making a decision...like changing a job, or starting your own business, or in the case of a recent experience that I have had, talking with a friend of mine who is separated from her husband, since she is going through something similar to what I went through in my marriage, yet it was not going to be an easy subject to talk with her about, and I didn't know if it would do any good, but I felt God leading me to do it, so I obeyed. There are times I think it is pretty obvious that we should step up and fill in the gap. Those decisions are easy to make, but it is the other confusing things in life, where I get a little fuzzy on what God wants me to do.
Doyle, thanks! |
