That's crazy.

What texts in the Queran are they using to justify this sort of thing?

Actually, when I read the entire transcript, there is a whole dialog where they discuss the Koran and how it does or does not apply in this situation. Essentially, they come to the conclusion that it does NOT restrict women from being drivers.  So, they put all these rules in place to keep women from stumbling from the other "moral" issues they have. For example, if a woman breaks down, they have a special section of the government that the woman can call to get help because if a man comes to help her, she will probably cause him to fall according to their law.  When people have not ever tasted freedom, it scares them.

Wow!  Thanks for sharing this!  We don't know what "freedom" is until we know what it isn't!

Thanks Kathy. Hadn't thought of it in those terms, but that is the crux of the matter, isn't it?  Real freedom, like we have experienced in the US is so precious, so unusual, and so easliy lost.
