4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. When ever picking a movie, that verse should be the measure stick that all christians should judge the movie. I know at times, the commercails make the movie seem decent and advertising. First things to ask is the movies rating. If the movie is rated R, as Christians, we should ask another question. Why is this movie rated R? Does this R rated movie have any redemable value? I remember, one time, my niece was wanting my sister to get her the movie The Patriot with Mel Gibson. I had already seen the movie and felt it was a good movie for my 15 year-old niece to see. After all there is few movies on the Revalutionary War for kids to learn from. I looked at my sister and said, "Sis, I own this movie. I know it is a R. This movie has no improper thing in it. This movie is educationial." Needless to say, my sister knew I am a good judge on movies and she got the movie for my niece.
My advise for Christians is, when a new movie comes out, go and find a site where Christian critics, like www.crosswalk.com, well give a good judge of the movie's character. I only own about 10 R rated movies and each one, unless I was an extra on that movie (Bad Santa), I can feel good that I used God's Judging Stick on it. |
