| Do I Know Jesus Well Enough? |
|
| |
14:9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you do not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?
I do know Jesus fairly well, but I am equally sure that I don’t know Him well enough. I am still a student, and I am learning more each day. Perhaps I won’t ever know all there is to know of Jesus, at least not in this life.
I wake up each morning, and I know He is there. I know He is walking beside me every day. He is there watching over me every night. Yet, I am in wonder at how He can be there with me, and yet with someone else on the other side of the world? I don’t know how it works, but I know that He is with everyone who calls upon Him. That is something that our human minds just cannot grasp.
I know Jesus is full of compassion, and loves us even when we aren’t lovable. I know He is the great comforter, the great provider, the great counselor, the great healer. I know that He gave up His life for me, and that His blood is the only thing that can wash me clean of my sins.
I know that even as I thank Him and praise Him every day, for the rest of my life, it will never be enough to equal what He did for me. It will never be enough for all that He has blessed me with.
Even as I know all this about Jesus, I know there is so much more to learn. He is constantly teaching me things every day. Giving me new insights into His ways, and His thoughts, and how He wants me to behave.
Lord, Jesus, I thank You that You have made Yourself known to me. I thank You that You continue to teach me things that will help me live this life. I thank You for all that You have done for me to wash me clean of my sins. I thank You for keeping me safe, for upholding me when I am weak, for comforting me when I am sad, for keeping me company when I am lonely. I praise Your great and holy name for who You are, and for what You have done for me. I am so blessed to have found You, to have accepted You as my Lord and Savior. Thanks be to God! Amen!

| Truth can be known. Not all truth can be known. People were created in the image of God. Only God is truely "all knowing." |

Awesome Deb!
Unbelief. Even the disciples had to struggle with unbelief. Lot's of people talk about a lack of faith or increasing our faith. But the Word says that we were each given "the" measure of faith. Honestly, I believe what we suffer from most often is unbelief.
Even John the baptist. In Mathew 11,verse 3, John says "“Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?” " Wow. John was born to prepare the way for the Messiah. He was the only man written that was filled with the Holy Spirit since birth. He saw the dove ascending on Jesus after he baptised him. He even said "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world" He also said "I am not worthy to even untie his sandals" The purpose of John's entire life was to prepare the people for "The Coming One" Yet, when he was in prison, the enemy began to fill his mind with doubt and unbelief. Hence his question "“Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?” "
That just baffles me every time I read that. John the baptist himself had unbelief.
This was a great blog Deb and it sparked some deep thought for me. What's even more amazing than Johns question is Jesus' reply. I may even have to blog on that sometime. It took me a while to come to terms with how Jesus comforted him.
I am getting off on a tangent here, but wanted to say again, thanks! |

Sorry Deb. After I thought for a few moments I realized that your blog topic really isn't an issue of unbelief. But the opening verse immediately reminded me of unbelief. And from there I was taken to Matthew and so forth.
The topic of your blog is "growing to know and trust Jesus more and more every day" I am so much right there with you. But I will say that knowing you is bringing that into fruition that much quicker!
Thanks for being you!

| Deb, the analogy is perfect. . . Oh, what analogy? The one I haven't mentioned yet. Did you ever see the musical "The King and I"? there is a song in there called "Getting to Know You" and this is the first thing that came to my mind: Getting to know - the King!
Great blog! |

Stu, thank you!
Tom, do you think that when we get to Heaven, we will know all that God knows, or will He still be the all knowing one, and we don't know it all?
Doyle, thank you!
Michael, this could take a different path and be a blog about unbelief...in a way it is pointing out what I believe, so maybe we could say it is a blog about belief. I think that some people could see Jesus in the flesh and still not believe in who He is. I am amazed at how much I keep learning about Him, and reading different views on blogs on MyChurch, has helped me to see things from other people's perspective. You are one of those that writes great blogs, and I enjoy reading them, and also enjoy reading your comments on mine. Thank you for taking the time to comment!
Gene, I have not watched The King and I, but I do believe I have heard that song. And each day is a chance to get to know the King more. |

Good job, Deb. Wasn't it Aristotle who said that he was the smartest person alive because he did not know everything? I think we Christians have been given enough opportunity and knowledge about Him to live our lives in His fellowship. The rest we'll gain when we are with Him! Thanks for your testimony. |

| Ed, yes, I do believe God gives us all we need to know. Frankly, I am glad I don't know everything...those who are more knowledgeable have to live up to that, and they have more problems. I am glad for what God teaches me each day, little bits at a time. I couldn't handle anymore! |

Deb, you have to see the movie. Yule Brenner plays the King and it's based on an actual historical encounter between the King of Siam (now Thailand) and an English teacher he hires to teach his many children about the world. It is a clash of cultures (and the traditional Hollywood romance) with some resolution on getting to better understand one another in the end. It contains a "culturally modified" version of Uncle Tom's Cabin which is fun to watch too.
The parallel here is that we too have a culture that is different from that of the Kingdom since we were brought up in the world. Seeing God's Kingdom and learning His culture is critical to understanding our role. |
