Of course a US denominational breakdown is not sufficient, because there are people here from all over the world. So the top Christian bodies according to http://christianity.about.com/od/denominationscomparison/ss/statisticschart.htm are:

1+ billion Catholics
225 million Eastern Orthodox
77 million Anglicans
75 million Presbyterians
66 million Lutherans
50 million Assembles of God
43 million Baptists
17 million Seventh Day Adventists

Now that's quite an interesting breakdown. If someone has the world wide percentages, that would be interesting too.

Joe, I think the important point you are highlighting is whether or not mainline churches see social networking as important as other church traditions on MyChurch do. My sense is that mainline churches do not yet, and that non-denoms are showing the importance of it. I think it would be interesting to know if other social networking sites targeting different church groups have similar statistics.

Joe,

I do not attempt to speak for all Salvationist, but I do know one thing. We, the  Salvation Army people that I speak often too, love being a part of this great forum. I do want to thank Eli for his help in making this possible for us. Truth is, we just love JESUS! It's a nice prelude to heaven when the whole of Jesus lovers will be united in one place. Nice work setting this up. Maybe we can use this to win more souls to the kingdom. If it brings one.... It's worth all the work.

You're data is interesting. And you are correct, I believe. However, the Salvation Army is considerably larger than many would possibly know. Our practical ministry is seen more often than our Spiritual side, even though winning souls to the Kingdom is our motivation for all the works, in whatever format, we do.

I also look forward to getting to know other believers, worshipping the one true God, in cities and towns across the world, that I would've never known without mychurch.org.

God bless you all!

The title really attracted me to this blog.  "Denominational breakdown" I love it!  I thought it was going to show the inadequacies of the Denominational church.  I guess we don't need any stats for that huh?  Anyway, it is interesting how we can all come together on this site and encourage each other, express some ideas, and have a little fellowship.

Thanks all for the comments.

Rick - I (and am sure many others) have learned quite a bit about the Salvation Army from its presence here.  So thank you for representing!  Eli and I plan to do a lot more with the mycorps.org network over the next few weeks.  Especially to encourage other Salvationists to write blogs and participate in discussions.  If you have any ideas, feel free to shoot them over.
