Pregnant man tells Oprah: It's a miracle
By Michael Conlon CHICAGO (Reuters) - A transgender man who is six months pregnant said in an interview aired by Oprah Winfrey on Thursday that he always wanted to have a child and considers it a miracle. "It's not a male or female desire to have a child. It's a human desire," a thinly bearded Thomas Beatie said. "I have a very stable male identity," he added, saying that pregnancy neither defines him nor makes him feel feminine. Beatie, 34, who lives in Oregon, was born a woman but decided to become a man 10 years ago. He began taking testosterone treatments and had breast surgery to remove glands and flatten his chest. "I opted not to do anything with my reproductive organs because I wanted to have a child one day," he told the talk show host. Now, he said, his size 32 jeans are getting a bit tight and his shirts are a bit stretched. Nancy, to whom he has been married for five years and who has two grown daughters by a previous marriage, also appeared on the show, saying the couple's roles will not change once the baby is born. "He's going to be the father and I'm going to be the mother," she said. Their marriage is legal and he is recognized under state law as a man. The couple was shown on video provided by People Magazine, which collaborated with Winfrey on the show, showing the room that will be the baby's nursery. Beatie said the little girl was going to be "daddy's little princess." The couple was also filmed in their hometown of Bend, Oregon, where he underwent an ultrasound showing the baby in his womb. "I can't believe it. I can't believe she's inside me," Beatie said while watching the ultrasound image. "We see her as our little miracle." His obstetrician, Dr. Kimberly James, who practices in the Oregon town, told Winfrey, "This is a normal pregnancy." |

| Please, she was a woman who decided to be a man and now has decided that he/she wants to have a child.... this is disgusting! See what happens when we get to the point in society that we start trying to change God's creation! |
I just don't know..... Pretty soon this will be the norm too????
God help us |

| I think I just threw up in my mouth ! |

| Wow. Uhm, so.... I am really confused. I get the whole "male preggo" thing, though, I must agree with Gene... I don't think it's "technically" a male pregnancy...
And Cathy, I LOVE that line! :) |

I can't believe Cathy posted a picture of "IT"
I also can't believe that "IT" is recognized as a male by state law. |

Well, "IT" is recognized by God as one of His children. I think we should be able to react according to that perspective at least. Beyond that, I'm at a loss.
Still I do love how the doctor just dismissed the whole thing as being "normal" I wonder if the doctor considers "IT" as male or female. |

| Well my question would be what would the effects of all of the drugs that he is taking in order to illicit such a change going to do to the development of the child. I think he should have considered that before embarking on such an endeavor. I think that this is typical of the modern person's selfisheness. |

| Just another brick in the wall... |

Cathy, there is just something wrong with that picture!
Gene, yep...one of God's children whom He loves.
MD, good point. The heavy hormone treatments needed to go through that process would have to have some sort of impact (one would think), but then again, the body is a beautiful creation and a female body is especially designed to kick in extra strong immunities when pregnant (I am sure there is a medical term for it. All I know is that during pregnancy many women are very healthy.)
Wyatt, sadly.
All, I know women always have a right to change their mind, but this is a little over the top, don't you think? |
WAAYYYYY OVER THE TOP!!!!!!!! |
| Yuck.... That's a whole new level of perversion. |
Revolting is too light a word. MD--I have to agree about the selfishness--after all this "couple" has a female in it who could have carried the child. The perversion of this is truly disturbing. My heart breaks for the couple who are so completely deceived--let this be a call to prayer for them and this innocent child...

points to this sentence :
>>was born a woman but decided to become a man 10 years ago. He began taking testosterone treatments and had breast surgery to remove glands and flatten his chest. "I opted not to do anything with my reproductive organs because I wanted to have a child one day," he told the talk show host.
The press is having a field day with this one! This "man" is only cosmetically altered, and in fact is no more a man than the dude that was made up to look like a jungle cat is a feline:

The fact that the pregnancy is getting so much press is indicative of our times.
Man wishes to make a mockery of God's plan for the sexes. For the masses, this looks like a male pregnancy. Why not mix our roles in life more and more? Who needs standards. All is grey. All is lost! |
Wow, and how did this woman become pregnant if "he" is with another woman??? Hal... awesome! looks like a man, acts like a man- still a woman! |
| What I find most disturbing is that I have the strong suspicion that this was done not out of a desire to bear a child, but rather out of a desire to make quick cash and become "famous". Hardly redeeming qualities for any parent, transgendered or not. |

Hal, won't be long until we eliminate the sexes altogether and babies will be reproduced in a lab because child birth is too dangerous...
MD, I was wondering about that, too...why would someone take this to the media? |
