| Can A Person Live By One Letter? |
|
| |
If you were an early Christian living in the times that the books of the Bible were being written, how could you survive with only one letter, one book? Even after all the books or letters (that we have in our Bible), were written; most people probably did not have a copy of them. It’s interesting for me to think about and wonder how could a great number of people survive spiritually, maybe with only one book, one letter available to them for their entire lives? What about you? If you didn’t have all the 66 books which make up the Bible, and you had to survive on only one book, which one would you choose to encourage you and to teach you the principals about how to live successfully? Many early Christians may have had to live this way. They may have been able to get a copy of one letter (sent to their Church), but most of them probably survived by word of mouth without a personal copy in their homes. Now I know I’ve heard that there were some early libraries that maybe some people could have gone to… but most believers, may have had to live by little bits and pieces of information. Many probably lived their entire lives by one letter, one book. If you had to live this way today, which one would you pick to live by? |

R,
I'd have to pick the book of Romans. After I was saved again, that book opened up to me like never before. I am stunned that I had read this book many times in my first attempt at Christianity and I absolutely could not see the point Paul was making. Thank God for the baptism in the Holy Spirit!
Before I was saved the first time, I was raised Roman Catholic. This is a whole sect dedicated to NOT reading the bible. In fact, if you start reading the bible, you wind up not being a Catholic. It's like they are mutually exclusive - praise God.

| Um, I think your missing one of the biggest letters of al lfrom God, than was never written, Nature and creation. Paul said in Romans that the truth of God is intrinsically kown and displayed through out all creation for man to see. I know there are many christians today that live without Bibles, and are just as strong, if not stronger than us, If there is a person who lacks letters, than I'm sure God will compensate by giving that person special revelation. I've read of many accounts of tribes in Papua New Guinie who have never had hte Bible, yet have had dreams, and visions and even angelic incounters telling them of hte good news. don't get me wrong here, the BIble is extremly important to the growin gchristians life, but God is not dependant on a book. No matter if it's devinly inspired or not. God is only dependant on Himself. |

Hey Ben, We recently heard of a guy who smuggles Bibles into China. When he was caught, they just took the Bibles from him, but when the Pastors that he gave them to were caught... they were thrown into prison. This man's account was so touching, as he told of the tearful Pastors receiving Bibles and risking their lives to do so. Reminds me of these verses also, "how then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent (Rom.10:14,15)." I can take for granted a lot when compared to these men. R... |

Hey Anybody,
This also reminds me of this. Some things we read and some things we write take on a new personality... depending on the light we have in the room or area. Sometimes I don't include in the reading of the Scriptures that maybe some of them were read and written by starlight.
That to me is an interesting thought and maybe some of them we need to read under the stars? Just my imagination on a Sunday afternoon (in the daylight, but thinking about starlight). Keep a happy thought. R... |

Hey Gene,
As I am sure you know, Billy Graham built his salvation ministry from the book of John. So you are in good company there. The Spirit was very active in leading many to repentance and salvation through John's account. It's a good book! |
