Routine can be the best of friends or the worst of enemies. This morning I was reading in Numbers chapter nine about the Passover. The Lord was very specific about the the time and the frequency of observing the Passover.9:1 And the Lord said to Moses, in the waste land of Sinai, in the first month of the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, 9:2 Let the children of Israel keep the Passover at its regular time. 9:3 In the fourteenth day of this month, at evening, you are to keep it at the regular time, and in the way ordered in the law. There is value in meeting with God on a regular basis whether it is a devotion time each morning or attending His house with other believers. Paul even warned us about the danger of getting out of the habit of meeting with God's people. 10:24 And let us be moving one another at all times to love and good works; 10:25 Not giving up our meetings, as is the way of some, but keeping one another strong in faith; and all the more because you see the day coming near. If we become so spiritual we don't need regular times of devotion we have become more spiritual than Christ, for He arose early each morning to meet with His Father. The discipline of regular meeting with God keeps us on target and opens a window for God to move in our private lives. The danger is that these meetings become mindless events at which we just go through the motions. Sad to say the passover became such a mindless event and God even pointed this out through His prophet Malachi that His people despised His table, they were in a spiritual rut. Pray that God will continually point you to a spirit of revival so you can rejoice in Him, a routine of revival. Will You not revive us again, That Your people may rejoice in You? |
