| Notion to Devotion to Emotion |
|
| |
10:4 (for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the casting down of strongholds), 10:5 casting down imaginations, and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ; Thought, action, feeling -- thus seems to be the flow of human emotion. 1) A notion, a thought, enters our mind. 2) We devote our self to that notion by mentally or physically acting on it. (We consistently ponder it, talk about it, or do something about it.) 3) We begin to feel something about it (emotion).
The more we devote our self to thinking, speaking, and acting on a notion, the stronger the emotion we will have about it. The strength of the emotion also depends on two things: 1) The intensity (forcefulness) of our thinking, speaking, and acting. And 2) The duration (the amount of time) of our thinking, speaking, and acting.
Thus if we casually think one thought, say one word, and do one action about a notion, our emotion will be very small (perhaps even below our level of awareness). But if we forcefully think, speak, and act on a notion over a period of months, our emotion about that notion will be very strong indeed.
Say what? What's all this mean anyway? Where's the beef?
Okay. Here you go. Do you want to feel better about something, anything? Then begin to positively and forcefully think about it, speak about, and act on it many times a day for the next few weeks. And presto -- you will begin to feel good about it!
Flip side. Do you have some feelings or emotions that you don't enjoy and want to lose them. No problem. Just do the opposite -- starve those painful emotions.
Be stubborn. Refuse to think about them (or the notion that produces them). Refuse to speak about them. And refuse to act on them. In fact, behave just the opposite of the way they are pulling you. Do this through out the day for several weeks with strong intensity and presto again! You will feel those disturbing emotions leaving you.
So if you don't like your emotions -- use the wonderful technique of "notion to devotion to emotion" and change them.

You can do it if you will Consistently think, speak, and act The way you want to feel! |

| Hudnall: 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 wasn't there when you posted your comment. Your comment inspired me to put it there. Thanks for the inspiration. |

| That's another great Scripture, Gene. |

Hey Steve
This is a good one. It works well for Christians when we remember our call to take up our cross, and all that entails , daily.
Keep up the good work
