A group of 25 folks from Calvary Community Church of Columbia, Maryland left for Gulfport Mississippi today (April 5th ) to work with the Gulf Coast Baptist Association. Their mission; to help uplift the spirits and give hope to at least two more families who are desperately desiring to get back in their homes as a result of hurricane Katrina. When they arrive the team will be split up with half of them installing and finishing sheetrock in one home and the other half painting the interior of a second house. As we understand, the owner of the second house was hurt in a serious car accident last week. I believe it is the desire of our project manager with G.C.B.A. to have this house finished as soon as possible so when the owner returns the home will be ready to move in. Although I was unable to go on this ministry outreach I was able to lay the groundwork for the trip, help them load up and see them off. I felt led to share with them this morning 1 John 3:16-18 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. What I saw in their eyes before they left was nothing short of true Godly love. These folks were glowing with excitement and anticipation even at 7:00 in the morning. They were not content to set back and think, “Somebody should do something more to help those poor folks”. They were ready to go down there and doing something about it. Willing to leave their comfort zone and step into someone else’s disaster zone to make a real difference. Please keep them in your prayers. Not only for their safety as they travel and work but that they will have the opportunity to share the love of the Lord with these folks who’s hearts are heavy with the details of getting their lives back together two and a half years after this horrific storm. If you would like information on how you can partner with us to bring hope and encouragement to hurting families down at the Gulf Coast please feel free to contact me. | This is John's first time down and we're very excited that he can be a part of this wonderful opportunity to help others. I'm praying that they are a blessing to others and that they themselves are blessed while down there and that special bonds of friendship are formed. Thanks for all the work you do, Mark, to make these trips possible. |

The team made it safe and sound to Gulfport, MS late Sunday afternoon. Pastor Dan is leading the group painting a house Kiln, MS north of Waveland. This house is owned by a lady named Darla. Her house was damaged or destroyed by a tornado that spun off of Katrina. Darla had back surgery a few week ago and last week was involved in a bad car accident. Doctor are saying she may be in the hospital for a month. Our folks are going to paint and do all they can to get the home ready so hopefully Darla's family and friends can move her back in when she can come home. The other part of our team are somewhere else in southern Mississippi hanging and finishing sheetrock in another families home. I have been told it is in the country 20 miles from the nearest store. I am starting to believe it because I haven't been able to contact anyone on that project yet. They may be over 20 miles from the nearest cell tower too :-) Keep the team in your prayers that the Lord will give them many opportunities to minister.

| Go Team C3 !!!! |

| Pray for safety while the team travels and for reliability from the vehicles. Not only has the team had to travel around eleven hundred miles to get to Mississippi they are traveling about sixty miles round trip each day to get to the homes they are working on. Today I heard from both teams and they were both happy with their days accomplishments. |

Just got this from the GCBA disaster relief director in Mississippi. They seem very pleased with the team and their first days accomplishments. Please keep them in your prayers as another day starts. They are running one hour behind us in MS. Mark <>< ****************************************************** Mark…what a super group you have. I met half of them today and they are doing a great job of painting Darla's home (the lady who was in the accident). She will have to go back into surgery [today] to have work done on her leg and back, so please lift her up in your prayers. Robert said that the rest of the group is doing a great job with their sheetrock job, too. Thank you for sending them. David |
