The Mock Trial of Jesus
Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ? Matthew 27:17 (KJV)
The same crowd that praised Him is now saying "Crucify Him". Let Barabas loose and crucify Jesus. Let His blood be on us and on our children. That is how much we despise Him."
You cannot live your life to please people. There is only one that you can count on at all times and it is God Almighty. He is always on your side.
Pilate says, "I'm washing my hands of this man. I find no fault in this man." He sends Him off. Then those Roman soldiers take Jesus and they scourged Him (Isaiah 53). All the while this was happening, He did not even open His mouth. He is going to obey the will of the Father.
Those Roman soldiers strip Jesus naked. They began to mock Him. They put a purple robe on Him. They took a crown of thorns and crushed it in His scull. Think about those thorn bushes crushed into His scull. They spit in His face. Then, they beat Him, and they beat Him, and they beat Him. Isaiah 52 says that His visage, His face, and His body was so beaten, bruised and disfigured that He hardly resembled a human. In other words, you have a total blood lynching. You have a mob who beats Him and no one pulls them off. They beat Him within an inch of His life. The beating is so bad that He cannot carry the cross. He does not have any strength left after receiving such brutal punishment.
You better forget about trying to be cool and make Jesus Lord of your life. He is the only one you can count on. In the end, you are going to stand before the One who hung on that tree. The day is going to come when the coolest thing is going to be eternal life. And everybody is going to want to get in at that time. But only those who have heard the Lord's call wi ll be able to get into the kingdom. Why? There is a road that goes to hell. And lots of people are following that. But narrow is the gate that leads to life. Now, you choose this day which way are you going to go? Are you going to choose the Barabbas? Are you going to choose being cool? Or are you going to take Jesus - King of kings and Lord of lords?

One of the aspects of Christ that makes my jaw drop is this:
He could have stopped it. He could have avoided the pain. He could have cursed the whole land into oblivion.
But, (get this) But He chose NOT TO.
