This past Saturday and I had the pleasure and privelege of working with the New Hope Moving Company ministry to move the Blackmon family from the aptly named Hidden Cove apartments to a house whose back door faces Mama Rosa's Pizza! I was involved in a similar MINISTRY "back at my last base church." The word ministry is the correct word to use for the service that was provided. This was Christians helping brothers and sisters in need. A large truck was donated to help move the big items and 6 strong backs moved box springs down stairs, carried a sleeper sofa over unever terrain and wet leaves and hand trucked (NOT an appliance dolly) a washer and dryer from one utility room to the truck to the other utility room and hooked them back up for use. Kimberly helped us "carb up" by providing a sackful of Egg McMuffins and hash browns, but we'd've done it for a glass or two of ice water. This is at least the 3rd time the NHMC ministry has helped a church member. Last year the ministry helped my mother-in-law unload her truck when she moved to Florida from Georgia and helped our pastor move from one house to another. I won't suppose that membership is the qualifier for this ministry. At my last church, we once moved the daughter of member from one house to another. The daughter had personal life issues and did not attend the church, but the moving company ministry showed up at House A and to move her belongings to House B. (Michael did some "free lance" moving work last summer for Theresa Kemp's new commander.) This is a very important part of the total ministry of New Hope Baptist Church. Who's next? |
