Hi Linda I can understand what you are saying here. I was having a similar discussion with my wife at lunch today. After we are a Christian a while things start to get a little muddled. We start reading the bible out a sense of duty and we hear scripture quoted so often that we become unmoved by the power contained in those words. It is sort of like a couple that have been married for a while. They start to tune each other out and don't hear half what the other person is saying. You thing that since you have been in relationship so long that you know what's coming anyway so rather than listening you form your next response. I am at a place now where I so want to hear clearly what the Lord is saying to me. There are so many doctrines out there now that all say this is the way the other people are doing it wrong that it causing me to retreat from it all. I know from my relationship with Him that He is credible and faithful and I do know that He gave it all for me. He did it all for me when I had no appreciation for Him. He's great.

I remember seeing the movie Mel Gibson put out, the "Passion", and I saw myself as one of the soldiers beating Him, and then at the crucifixion scene, again I saw myself as one of the soldiers driving the nails.. it really made me break down, seeing that my sins were nailed to the cross, and He forgave me!

It was because of my sins that He was put on that cross, but He arose and forgave me!

sorry, I did not take the time to read fully, you had already mentioned his movie.

Actually an interesting piece of trivia about the Passion is the person who Mel chose to drive the nails into Christ's hands in the movie, especially given all the anti-semitic rants about the movie.  It's the one place in the film, you'll find Mel.  I'd have to find the article where it discusses the whys, but basically it had to do with wanting to remind himself who was responsible.
