I've been watching my grandson Caleb (just about one year old) try his best to learn how to walk.
Didja ever watch, really watch a kid do that?!
In the space of about 5 minutes he:
Tries a step, falls forward and does a face plant (that must really hurt!) [lots of crying] He gets up, uses a shelf for balance, walks along, trips on a toy, and not only falls, but hits the shelf on the way down! (that must really hurt!) [lots of crying] He gets back up, tries again to take a step and does ANOTHER face plant! (that must really hurt!) [lots of crying]
Are you catching a pattern here? He'll probably repeat this scenario about a thousand times (and suffer about that many bumps and bruises) before he takes off walking....
I've been thinking...if there is something I want to do really badly, and fail at it about twice, (especially if great pain is involved) I most often simply quit! Maybe I quit too soon...maybe falling and failing is just another way of learning... Hmmmmm....another lesson from the "ankle-biters"! (And maybe I should've named this blog entry "From the Backsides of Babies)!
