| There is Power in the Word of God! |
|
| |
The Word of God is powerful! The greatest supernatural power in the world available to man is the Scriptures, the Bible, the Word of God! Some may say what about the Holy Spirit? What about Prayer? What about the blood of Christ? Yes they are all divine power available to us, but all of these other powers work in conjunction with the Word of God.
When a person speaks the Word of God He or she is invoking divine power and authority into any given situation. The Scriptures say that the Word of God is quick and powerful. There is power in the Word!
4:12 For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
When the Word of God is spoken it is able to penetrate deep within a person's person. The Word of God penetrates our innermost being. Everyone is effected by the speaking of the Word of God. The Word represents the highest authority in the universe. God can not lie therefore He must honor His Word above all things. When God speaks everything in the universe is subject to those words. It does not matter if the hearer agrees with the Word or not agreement is irrelevant. When we speak the Word of God it has an effect like a sword that pierces into the innermost part of a person. The Scripture is referred to as a 2 edged sword, which cuts going in and cuts going out. When the Word is spoken into someone's life, it has an effect. If the person is tender-hearted the Word will bring about repentence. If the person is hard-heared it could result in a further rejection of the truth of God and that person will be judged by the Word of God.
The Bible says in Hebrews 4:12 that the Word of God is a discerner of the thoughts and intentions of the heart. The Word exposes a person's own sinfulness. When the Word of God is spoken it speaks to our conscience. When we hear one of the 10 commandments for example let's say, "Thou shall not steal." immeadiately we know if we are a theif or not. We know the truth even if no body else knows or sees the truth, the Word of God exposes the truth. All of us will be judged by the Word of God and by our response to it. Are we a doer of the Word or are we just a hearer of the Word?
55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper [in the thing] whereto I sent it. The above verse teaches us that the Word of God never ever returns void! It always accomplishes the work for which it was intended. There are times as a preacher that I feel like a failure. It seems I would preach my very best and nothing would happen! We would sing "Just As I AM" and everyone would leave just as they were! It would be so discouraging and the Devil would have a field day with my mind condemning me with failure. Or perhaps maybe you have witnessed to someone you loved and they either rejected your invitation to receive Christ or they just didn't understand what you were saying. You would leave feeling rejected and hurt wondering why God would even call you to take such abuse. But when I read this verse it truly fires me up! The Word when spoken always accomplishes the will of God and it shall prosper where it was sent! When we speak, preach, share, teach, memorize, quote the Word of God it always accomplishes what God intened for it to accomplish! There is no failure when you speak the Word of God! So don't be discouraged when you don't see the results you had hoped for. Just be faithful to keep speaking the Word of God and know that it is doing just exactly what God intended it to do.
3:16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. The Scripture is profitable to bring about knowledge, righteousness, and spiritual maturity. There is an attitude in the church today that doctrine is not important and that doctrine is divisive. But the Bible here tells us that doctrine is profitable. Doctrine is God's truth and rules to live by. There is no higher standard to base our values upon than the Bible. The Bible superceeds man's laws. Just because something is lawful in the country you live in does not make it lawful for man to do. It doesn't really matter if you agree with the Bible or not. You can try to massage it to make it say what you want it to say, but in the end the Scripture only means one thing. Each passage has only one interpretation. It may have a thousand applications but it only means one thing and it is profitable and benefical for us to figure out what that Scripture means and then apply it. The Scripture brings about righteousness. When we start to let the Scripture take root in our spirits it begins to change us and make us more like Christ. How many times have you been in a situation where you were tempted to sin, but then a memory verse came to you? That reminded you that God was watching and He was speaking to you, to not go forward and give into that temptation. I know that happens to me all the time. The Bible by now, has become part of my thinking. Almost all of my thoughts are now filtered through what I have learned from the Word of God, and now I know what is right and wrong and what God says about any given subject or situation because His Word has already spoken to that situation. Because of that I now know how my actions are to be. If I choose to give into sin any way, the Word of God judges me and condemns my actions, and the Holy Spirit then begins to convict me of that sin, which should lead me to repentance. The Word of God will absolutely change you from the inside out! There is nothing in the world that is as powerful as the Word of God. We need to love it, receive it, and let it effect the way we think and act. Keep on speaking it, teaching it, sharing it, for God's Word never returns void and it always accomplishes the purpose for which it was intended.
God Bless Y'all Brother Todd |

For some it is conviction, for some it is a death sentence. Mt. 13:15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, And their ears are dull of hearing, And their eyes they have closed; Lest haply they should perceive with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And should turn again, And I should heal them. we are required to give what the Lord has put on us, else their blood is on our heads Ez. 3:18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thy hand.

| Cheryl, Happy to encourage you! I definitely can relate to feeling like a failure and wondering if anything that I said made a difference, but the great and wonderful thing is to know that they do. As long as I am speaking the Word of God, I am speaking power, authority, and life and you are too! |

Gary: You are so right. The Word does one of two things. It will soften you and bring you to repentance or it will harden you and worsen your condition. The Bible tells us that Pharoah hardened his heart against God, and then it says later that God hardened Pharoah's heart. Seems like a contradiction right? No, Pharoah chose to disobey God and challenge His word, therefore the Word hardened Pharoah's heart all the more. I am concerned for many who sit under Biblical teaching over the years and know that because they have chosen to rebel against God or bargin with Him, they have hardened their heart and thereby condemning their own selves but not heeding the Word. |
