| Yard sale grace |
|
| |
People who spend their Saturdays hunting the yard sales know well the saying "one man's junk is another man's treasure." What one person considers worthy of a .25¢ price tag as he puts things up for sale in his front yard may well cause another person's heart to leap for joy and excitement as he discovers what to him is the find of an entire summer of yard sales.
From what I've seen, Christian liberty is often like a .25¢ book at a yard sale to those who take a legalistic view. What once brought joy and excitement when it was new has become worn out. Those who are quick to stamp others as unrighteous no longer get the joy and satisfaction from simple grace that they once did, and the price tag they've put on this grace seems to indicate they really don't expect others to either.
15:2 And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, "This man receives sinners and eats with them." The Pharisees and teachers of the law obviously saw Jesus’ words as worthless and ineffective (for fulfilling religious duty), didn’t they? But these sinners. Jesus words surely caused their hearts to leap for joy as they discovered freedom from sin and friendship with God within their reach after all. One man’s junk was another man’s treasure! |

| Hey! First comment! That has been a while :) |

|
| I so enjoy you blogs. I so thankful God saw a treasure in me. |

| C. S. Lewis, in the Screwtape letters, put forth the thought that it wasn't the big things that wore us down, it was the little day to day things that could lul us into complacency. In the same way the early monastics said that the beginning of true spirituality was becoming awake to the things of God, and our own sin. You know that 25c book can be the treasure that opens up life before us. I remember that we found some of the most amazing books for our kids at yard sales, and I've often found more grace in those small quiet moments than on the mountain top. |

| Great thought Mike! If some people would Just remember the Grace they have received! |

| Great blog again Mike. We need to always remember that God sent His Son to this world not to condemn it but to save it. We need to have the same compassion He did and does with people. Love wins people to Christ, not condemnation. When we allow our Christianity" to become like a 25cent book, that is how we start treating people"25cent people." God bless you. |

| I've concluded that some folks will not come to know Christ as savior because 1) they aren't convinced of the penalty of sin, and 2) they think accepting God's grace is too simple (cheap?). Not counting the fact that we acceptors are taught by the Bible not just to be "hearers" but "doers", it all starts with the grace that is given freely to all who would receive it. Thanks for the powerful reminder, Mike! |

Great work there Mike. I think that these songs lyrics, fits in, how about you? Here's to the strong; thanks to the brave. Don't give up hope: some people change. Against all odds, against the grain, Love finds a way: some people change. |

| Great blog Mike! I have no comments except I agree! |

One man's junk (his eyes are closed) is another man's treasure (Thank you Father for opening my eye's) !!!!!
We see and hear the word because we are his children and in being so we need to be doers also. We cannot hog tie people and make them listen or understand the miraculous gift of GRACE, but we can continue to speak his word and show his love in action.
Great Blog little brother |
