| Arachnophobia |
|
| |
Arachnophobia: Any of a class of eight-legged arthropods, including spiders, scorpions, mites, etc..and the fear thereof. Webster's Student Dictionary 1991Edu.
Many aspects were left out of this definition when you are the one terrified of spiders. Yes, again, I was at a drive-thru today, and I rolled down my window...to see a huge spider hanging right by my face. I had nothing in my hand to hit it with, I was frozen to the point I could not remember my order even.
Fear has a strong hold on us ...IF we let it. Life and moving forward in life is based on each persons ethos, belief-system, and interpretation of God's word. Ones Ethos if you remember from English, sets the "authority of the writer, an expert, or a culture" . Strategems, Stein, et.al., 2008.
How one dictates their personal ethos is based on the human factors of their environment and how they process information. If one was raised in a negative home environment, the recipient of the negativity has the human factor of behavior to respond in a negative fashion.
Each person has a Belief-System. Belief-Systems are comprised of one's soul, spirit, and interpretation. (Looking for book for reference) The truths or lies that have been spoken into our life make up our Belief-System. For example, Suzie will be fat, her mom is fat, its genetic in this family, all the people in our family are obese. Some findings are coming true as to a genetic link in obesity; however since being in the medical profession for almost 20 years..I still have not seen concrete evidence as to such. Most behavior responses in this field are due to behavior and response towards food with the addition of emotion and or true medical condition.
Finally, Interpretation of God's word is based on an individuals personality, belief-system again, and the Holy Spirit, whom has all authority. One person may read a passage and see {spiritually, not carnally} a different interpretation to the word than another. Again, please keep in mind all word is inerrant and breathed by God.
With a little background established now, looking at that spider, it may not have been any big deal to one person and to another...terrified. One may see a little 'spot' or nuisance, another may see 8 HUGE legs expanded with fur and have a memory of a past assault from a spider, etc, etc.
A Holy fear and reverence is from the Lord. A crippling fear...is NOT.
Many of us have written and spoken about fear here lately....fear to
tell a parent about a unplanned pregnancy go to the doctor step into a position move forward in a relationship the fear in our belief-system stop the pain in their lives....as it is a comfort the list is endless.....
1:7 For God gave us not a spirit of fearfulness; but of power and love and discipline.
We can choose to follow God and see the glass and our situation as half-full or half-empty.
True, just like with the many aspects of the spider others may not see....many aspects lay in stepping forward and following God.....Is God big enough to handle it?
He will never leave you nor forsake you. |

Yeah, I get to be first!
You have shone an intersting light on perspective. I am working on a thought about understanding a perspective is a stronger step towards wittnessing than explaining one.
Girl, ya done started sumthin' :-) |

| Great blog, Cheryl. Fear is something we all deal with and you certainly covered some important things to think about concerning it! Great job! |

| nice! as a kid... i was scared all the time, i guess most are... i think when i was like 5 i saw some of Jaws (bad idea) and we had blue carpet and yeah... i thought sharks were under my bed for sure haha! i used to cry a lot too... but anyway... i LOVE this blog, i am thinking about being a psychologist... i am really intrigued at the mind God has created... its amazing... most of you know i went through an apathetic state... well, during that time, i lost the will to live, and stopped being scared of stuff... so i don't really jump anymore at things... i did finally jump while driving though, thought i saw a cat or something run out, but i didn't hit anything and when i looked back, nothing was there... but spiders... if i can see them, doesn't matter to me, but the thought that maybe one is lurking :-S i don't like at all... and as for "we have nothing to fear but fear itself" didn't he continue by saying "and starving to death"? but we don't even have to fear that, because God is.... well God.... and we are His children <3 we are in "better hands now" ya know? Jesus just wants to take our fears and doubts and burdens and keep them on himself, that we might be free... just put your faith in Him <3 |

Fear is one of the things that I think God gave me as a way to seek Him out. The 'condensed' version of my testimony is that the way I was raised and taught to think about religion was going to end with me dying in my sin. My overwhelming (at times) fear of what happens when you die FINALLY led me to Jesus, and I thank God for that fear now! Though I still have some fears - I don't like swimming where there are fish or too much seaweed. :) |

| Very good blog Cheryl. I wrote a blog a while back and I believe I titled it something about the glass being half empty or half full. Funny how we can have such different perspectives on life...not only between individuals, but in our own selves, whatever our mood might be in a certain day. |

OUTSTANDING
Well Cheryl I must admit I do have a fear of most creepy crawly things, and a few on that list but I take the by the horns and pray until I over come the fear.
MY SONG
FEAR NOT, O LITTLE FLOCK Fear not, O little flock, the foe Who madly seeks your overthrow; Dread not his rage and pow’r: What though your courage sometimes faints, His seeming triumph o’er God’s saints Lasts but a little hour. Be of good cheer; your cause belongs To Him who can avenge your wrongs; Leave it to Him, our Lord: Though hidden yet from all our eyes, He sees the Gideon who shall rise To save us and His Word. As true as God’s own Word is true, Nor earth nor hell with all their crew Against us shall prevail. A jest and byword are they grown; God is with us, we are His own; Our vict’ry cannot fail. Amen, Lord Jesus, grant our pray’r; Great Captain, now Thine arm make bare, Fight for us once again; So shall Thy saints and martyrs raise A mighty chorus to Thy praise, World without end.

Great blog my friend....I can certainly relate....I've had a similar situation happen to me with spiders....and I can assure you me and spiders don't do well.....I happened to be *driving* my car...and noticed this little critter crawling along the dash board....Welllll I almost had the BIG ONE...(smile) I had to pull the car over and get a grip...pray...scream...and call on Jesus (smile). Needless to say....the spider spun his web, and slid down in an air vent somewhere....so I had to *trust God*.....get back on the road, and make my way to work...
Keep em coming my sister...keep em coming!!!! Love you! |

I just started calling every spider I saw - "Charlotte" and sometimes Charlotte had an untimely demise! Not to spiritual was it - oops - I just changed it's image -- But mine I have to really dig deep with is BATS -- can't think of a nice movie with a bat in it -- and I do not care if they eat bugs --- I am still working on those things |

Fear is a natural part of us. It gets us moving when the alternative may be dangerous. There are irrational fears that grip people's lives and crush their spirits.
Overcoming fears is the ability to see the truth in the situation and react accordingly (I know - easier said than done). When we realize that something is not really known to us, we fear it - the unknown. It pushes us from our comfort zone.
I think that too many Christians have an unnatural fear about doing God's will - mostly because they do not know God's will - or possibly know God well enough to trust. In Christian circles fire and brimstone was used as a fear to motivate people to seek God. Fear moves people. The, what we nee dis movement toward peace and love and comfort in knowing that we do not need to be in control as long as God is.
(Oh, and I don't like anything with more than 4 legs either - !!!!) |
