| How much does it cost to go to heaven? |

My 7 year old nephew asked me this question yesterday... and as funny as that question sounded at the time I felt my heart searching last night for an answer.
I know that it costs nothing less than the blood of the Son of God to provide atonement and to redeem a person from going to hell. We "are bought with a price." "Christ gave Himself a ransom for all" (1 Cor. 6:20; 1 Tim. 2:6). But, the point I want to consider is another one altogether. Is it what a person must be ready to give up if they wish to be saved? Is it the amount of sacrifice a person must submit to if they intend to serve Christ? And so this is why I raise the question: "What does it cost?"
It does cost something to be a real Christian, according to the standards of the Bible.
-There are enemies to be overcome - battles to be fought - sacrifices to be made - an Egypt to be forsaken - a wilderness to be passed through - and a cross to be carried Conversion is not sitting in an easychair and coasting easily into heaven. It is the beginning of a mighty conflict, in which it costs much to win the victory. So here is the "COST"
1. True Christianity will cost one his self–righteousness 2. True Christianity will cost a person their sins. He must be willing to give up every habit and practice which is wrong in God’s sight. 3. Christianity will cost a person his love of ease. He must take pains and trouble if he means to run a successful race toward heaven 4. Lastly, true Christianity will cost a man the favor of the world. He must be content to be thought ill of by man if he pleases God.
Considering the weight of this great cost, How bold indeed must be that man who would dare to say that we may keep our self–righteousness, our sins, our laziness and our love of the world, and still be considered saved!
The presence and company of Christ will make up for all that we suffer here on Earth. When we are able to look back on the journey of life, we will undoubtedly wonder at our own faintness of heart. We will marvel that we made so much of our cross, and thought so little of our crown. We will also marvel that in "counting the cost" we could ever doubt on which side the balance our profit really layed. Take courage brothers and sisters, for we are not far from home. It may cost much to be a true Christian and consistently holy; but it pays.

There is a saying among those of us who haved served in the military:
"FREEDOM IS NOT FREE, IT COST ALL SOME AND IT COST SOME ALL"
Our TRUE FREEDOM cost GOD EVERYTHING and since it cost Him Everything it is only logical that it will cost us Something.
Good Word! |
