I heard about this on the local Christian radio station on the way home last night. My wife said several people had mentioned it in our store as well. There are two of them on the web. One is from Idol Gives Back where they conveniently leave out the "My Jesus" phrase. However, here the song is sang giving full glory to our Lord. Pretty awesome...and I must say, it was a bold move for Idol. TGBTG!!
I was blown away when they did this on American Idol!! We watch the show as a family and discuss the song lyrics chosen by the contestants--which songs edify which ones damage the soul. We were amazed that this song was even chosen for the eight to do. Someone connected with the show has got to have a clue about Christ. It seems like there were more Christians in the top ten this time than in seasons past, but I don't really know. Does anyone know if any of these kids (yes, kids ;-), I am old enough to be mommy to some of them!) are Christians? I would love to know for sure.
OMY awesome!!! I dont watch this show, but WOW Thank YOU thank you so much for sharing this. I got God bumps and tears filled my eyes. I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! and I am glad they sang it!!! God Bless
Since I consider these types of shows to be a waste of electrons I didn't see it. I heard someone mention it though. Thanks for the posting. It is great that God is being allowed to appear on TV again. Sad that the opposite is also true.
I saw it and was amazed. My niece was over here and I kept asking her "that is on what??" It made me so joyous and brought tears of happiness to my eyes. God is Good!!
Hey Voice, Wed. night they did leave out His name, however on Thursday night when they opened up with the same song, they did say Jesus' name! I couldnt believe it! When Dolly Parton was on a couple of weeks ago, she sang a song about Jesus, also Mariah Carey sang a song about Him Wedensday night! So I just think it is wonderful!
Amy, I suspect the Wed night show might have been the American Idol Gives Back one that I mentioned above...have no clue since we don't do tv...Dolly Parton has been an outspoken Christian for years and has a wonderful theme park outside of Gatlinburg, TN which is well worth the trip. In the last few years, Mariah has become more vocal about her faith as well. Cool!
I agree. It was very surprising to see something like this on American Idol.
It surprised me even seeing as it was Idol Gives Back. Very well done though!
I suspect there might be a few "ringleaders" in this group...hehe. I also wonder how much influence ther might be behind the scenes. Many people don;t know how strong the Christian influence is among writers, producers, arrangers, and session artists. In Nashville there is a very large contingent of these people who are Christians. They seem to be the ones who have opened up the door for mauch of this on TV and the radio. I think, in particular you can look to the Huff family. Ronn Huff's Nashville Strings were a mainstay on thousands of recordings. Along with that many great arrangers and writers apprenticed as assistants. I know there are many more out there. Just recently found out that Randy Stonehill is working with some others as a writer in Nashvelle, ya got to make a living don't you know.....
The song was chosen by the contestants which I think says a lot about where the gift comes from...also, consider the seeds that were planted in that three minutes. Pretty awesome.
Absolutely amazing, I love this song. Imagine the number of times it was practiced and the number of people who heard the message during these times. Glory to God. Thanks for posting it.
I believe they did that song because they are trying to connect to Christian audiences in a greater way. Behind the scenes I think they believe it will help their bottom line. On the flip side, God got out there to the ears of the public, so praise God!
I saw it and was almost in tears, I called my husband up from the basement so he could see it too and then the next day he told me they had performed it both nights. I was so touched. I love to see God working in secular Television....
Now all we have to do is get people to stop listening to the two O's, Oprah and Obama and the false teachings they are preaching.
Thank you for posting this Voice. I had not seen it...but like others on here...I was truly moved to tears. And no matter what the motivation was behind them doing it...God was ultimately in control of that plan! TGBTG! I just love it when HIS PLANS come together!!! Don't you?
This has actually been a topic of discussion of many Idol fans. They wonder why there are so many singers that sing Christian songs on Idol...just God opening the doors for His gifts to be seen...
Others have sang this song to a "generic" god so as not to offend anybody. These young people made it clear that it was THE God they were praising. I think that is awesome.
I am happy that the people in charge of the shows production made the decision to acknowledge the Lord's greatness and Love for us, in song or voice in today's media. I hope what happened on this show will serve of an example to other executives in media to follow through on glorifying God in the media in America . And watch their rating go up. I will pray for this to happen. Thy Will Be Done
Awesome!!!!! It doesn't matter who's mouth it comes out of......the name of the Lord God was being Exalted!!! If we as a people don't praise Him, the rocks will!!! I felt God was lifted up before the whole earth and nobody could of stopped it, if they tried!! ALL HONOR AND PRAISE TO ALMIGHTY GOD!!!!!!
Wow! We were at church the night this episode aired, so we missed it! I am so excited! With the overwhelming amount of viewers American Idol generates, they were defianetly shining their lights to the world! Praise be to God! Hopefully a seed was planted to many ! Thanks for sharing!
Sorry I am so late coming in on this. I did not see them sing on Idol gives back, but see it sung on the regular Idol show. I was amazed, and thrilled that they did it! It was awesome.
They took the power out of it by taking the name of Jesus out. I am almost insulted by it. They have taken a Christian song intended to worship Jesus Christ and neutered it.
Thanks sab...kinda like Donny Osmond...from a Mormon family, and did a great job in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (my daughter and I watched it again on Friday night)...
This was an awesome event! Also, from doing research and hearing the contestant's comments throughout the shows, I know that David Archuletta, Brooke White, Jason Castro, and Kristi Lee Cook are Christians. I am not sure about Siyesha or David Cook yet. God works miracles even through circumstancs that dont stand out .
I have never got into American Idol simply because it says in the name "Idol" so I never bothered watching it. To see that God is working through so many facets of America is amazing. Don't know if i'll ever really watch that show, but I'm glad that something like this is happening. Thank you for posting this, it reall brought joy to my heart.
Wow, I am totaly in awe......Praise God there are kids LITERALLY taking the stand for Jesus Christ and on national TV! I hope to see a report of where their lives are in 10-15 years, should Jesus tarries that long.
Wow is about all I can say. Don't generally watch the show, usually watching Hockey, especially now, but I wish I had seen this one. Thanks for sharing that with us. peace
That was so beautiful, we all should praise Jesus. It just made me feel good inside. I think it was the best preformace that has been on the show! Praise God, because millions of people watch that show.
I was told earlier this week that this show is shown in more countries than any other tv show on the air right now....so that tells me that Jesus' name was proclaimed, perhaps, in places where it is still forbidden...all through the media of tv...what's that the scripture says about God turning all things for His glory...pretty cool!
I was blown away when I heard them sing a christian song on american idol but it was awsomeThat was so beautiful, we all should praise Jesus. I normaly don't watch tv but I had nothing else to do so that interested me and I started to watch. I think praising Jesus is a wounderful thing,There should be alot of this going on. It was a wounderful show they all did a awsome job you go American Idol keep up the awsome work....
Awesome song . U am new here. What is name of it. I am member of high street church of nazerene Springfield, Ohio Can you E-mail me at tteet7522@woh.rr,com and let me know. Sing the Lord's Praise. AMEN teresa
I'd hate to be the only one to dissent here, but this just demonstrates how lacking of Christ and the Gospel our Contemporary Christian Music is. This is a show that glorifies tons of depraved music, and furthermore has it performed by people dressed indecently. It does not take any guts to be ecumenical. It always amazes me when people who live absolutely depraved lives give "glory to God" by thanking Him at the Academy Awards, meanwhile they're living depraved lives and singing depraved music. All this shows is American Idol doing what much of our evangelical culture is doing, embracing everything. This is not going outside the camp and bearing Christ's reproach. This song is like much of our CCM, and it doesn't bother the world, because it says nothing of sin, of Christ's shed blood, or of the blessed hope of His return. I think that this is merely an ecumenical marketing attempt on the part of A.I. to win a more Christian fan base to help cover up a lot of the indecent things that they're allowing on stage. I mean, let's just start with the title of the show, Idol.
i saw the show, as well as the idol gives back airring and i felt it was indeed an attempt by american idol execs to capture an even bigger piece of the american pie....however, with that said, i also must give glory to God because in the bigger scheme of things, he is able to use such things to drop seeds of redemption or to water seeds already planted, in the hearts of those who heard it. with carrie underwood's amazing success with "Jesus take the wheel", i think they have begun to see that america still loves to talk about and hear about the Lord...even if we as a nation are not serving him. some may see that as hypocritcal and they may be right, but here is the thing. the word says: "some indeed preach Christ even of envy and stife and some also of good will. the one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely supposing to add afflicntion to my bonds, but the other of love, knowing that i ma set for the defense of the gospel. what ehn? not withstanding every way, whether in pretence or in truth, Christ is preached; and i therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice. " (philippians 1: 15-18) so regardless of what their motivation or the condition of their own hearts, "my Jesus, my savior, Lord there is none like you. all of my days, i want to praise the wonder of your mighty love. my comfort, my healer, tower of refuge and strength..." those words are Christ being preached. has anyone noted the other songs about the Lord done by dolly parton, fergie, and neil diamond?
Brian, I understand your point to a degree, yet I favor the point Lady makes here. His Word does not return void. Nobody here claims that these singers are disciples nor does anybody on that stage contend to be speaking for the Lord. They are simply stones crying out praise to the Lord Jesus Christ. While it may not have been done the way you or I would have done it, the name of the Lord was indeed praised, the Word sent forth, and seeds planted...and for that I can only say, TGBTG!!
I agree with and apologize that my comments seemed reactionary and did not reflect my joy in seeing the Lord's name mentioned on national TV. I was concerned that my comments would be received that way, and I had Philippians 1 in mind when I wrote my comments. My main disappointment was over what seems to me to be a Christian endorsement of American Idol as a result of these actions. Paul still differentiates himself in Philippians 1 from those who are preaching out of selfish ambition.
I echo your joy in seeing our Lord's name set out as a seed to flourish, I think I am just used to seeing empty ecumenism for the sake of drawing the flock into alliance with the unGodly. My hope is that this does not happen here.
Knowing this is a Christian site, my comments were more toward the flock hoping that A.I. does not suceed in drawing us into their culture, but that we draw them into our churches where they hear Gospel rich music like "Nothing but the Blood"
I rejoice with both of you in unity, and again apologize for my reactionary position.
No, I won't be going out and getting cable so I can watch American Idol. I hope others see it the same way. We need to draw others into a Christ-like walk, and not try to blend in to the world.
For my own convenience, I put mp3 files of the Psalms being read on my web site; the Book of Psalms is divided into twenty MP3s. One time, when I was looking at the Apache log, I noticed that hundreds of people, the large majority in China, were downloading them! Don't really have an explanation, but I hope they understand and enjoy them. Maybe now I will put the whole Bible up there, in bite-size pieces. Who would'a thunk it?
I was in such awe when I heard "Shout to the Lord" on American Idol. I was so glad they allowed that on national TV. I hope it touched others they way it has touched me. Not to mention that is one of my favorite songs. Let's keep it going!!!!!!!
This is wonderful. Thank you American Idol. This makes me so happy to know someone did this. It is long overdue. I hope they have influenced other large programs on T.V. God bless those responsible. Faye Colmore
Why is eveyone arguing? I think it is great we hear Christian Songs. It is neat that Christian songs are going public. It is better than some of the rap music with all the foul language. Our society has gone into a slump. I remember these songs; My Sweet Lord; Tears in Heaven; Led zepplin singing; "stairway to Heaven",Neil diamon and elvis Presley singing "Amazing Grace". "GET A GRIP"!!! "TURN OVER A NEW LEAF"!!!! Teresa
My husand & I watch this show every year and so this was really a blessing to me to see them do this...Thank you Lord for whoever picked this for them to sing, bless them, the musicians and the singers.
From what I understand, the show lets the singers pick which song they want to sing at the end. Then the show choreographs it for them. Not sure if that is always the case, but that is my understanding.
just to send out a "heads up" ....the mormon church is not a real christian church. they have another book they adhere to called the book of mormon, which is considered to be equal to and even above God's wordm the Holy Bible and that is something that the bible itself condemns. there are also many other unbiblical beliefs in this organization which contradict the bible. some of the members of the mormon church may be real believers and trying to follow Jesus to the best of their ability, but they are not being taught the truth of the word and do not know Jesus to be the only son of God or see him as part of the godhead and they believe that only 144,000 people are actually going to heaven. many mormons are "godly" acting people but that is not the same as having a real living relationship with Jesus as a born again follower of his. it is a great idea to pray for those we know in the mormon church so that they can come to have a personal and deep relationship with Jesus and he may lead them into the knowledge of the truth.
It was beautiful, yet, I sat here wondering if they FELT what they were singing; if they really KNEW how wondrous our Saviour is. Brian C. said it all when he wrote in your comments, that we need to pull THEM in to our world, instead of them pulling us in to theirs. It is becoming stylish to thank God for your Emmy or Academy Award, etc......., yet, if we know our brothers and sisters by their fruits, then it saddens me to say that not many of these actors and musicians truly KNOW Whom they are thanking. And we should pray that they DO come to know.
Anne, I tend to agree...you notice how all of those people never mention Jesus...they just thank God. As Oprah would say..."whoever you choose god to be". Well, that isn't my God. My God is Jesus, so when someone makes the point of recognizing Jesus, then I usually figure it is deliberate. That is what really caught my attention here.
I think that was wonderful, I praise the Lord how He was able to get glory out of this program. And it sure sounded as if the Lord Himself anointed them. They were great.
I saw the broadcast and I cried because I knew it was God's way of showing He is in control. There were over 25 million viewers on that night, the seed was sowed and now all we have to do is pray for increase. The scripture states to pray for laborers. Join me in praying for all the viewers on that night that God will send laborers.
There seem to always be a few songs exalting our God on Idol, but only by individuals. In years past I have watched the show, but not this year. It seems that when they go closeup, you can tell who is singing with their hearts and souls. To have it played on TWO nights is a real miracle.
This clipping must have been from Idol Gives Back cause I tell you one thing. I did see it and on one of the shows that they performed this song on everyone was in white clothing and you would never guess it. BUT THE NAME OF JESUS WAS NOT MENTIONED IN THE SONG FOR THEY HAD CHANGED THE WORDS. Wonder who made them do that ???? It is an awesome song and really reaches out to people.
Cindy, the one on Idol Gives Back was the one you saw. They were all dressed in white. When I heard the music, I was hoping I would hear the name of Jesus. Nope. They started with the second line. This one was on American Idol.
I am looking forward to the new season. One of the guys who auditions will be covered with fake money. Much of those fake dollars are actually Gospel tracts. I am curious if he was asked about them. He may never see a second of air time, though! You should still be able to see his picture at www.wayofthemasterradio.com
Call me a nay-sayer, but in general American Idol represents the exact opposite of most Christian values and virtues. It's all about greed, glitz and gush!
Of course I watch it sometimes. Nonetheless, it is important to see that it doesn't represent anything remotely Christian.
That said, the fact that they even said the name "Jesus" on air is noteworthy. We know that the name of Jesus has power. If you don't believe it, try working it into any conversation anywhere at anytime and watch what happens. So, it's a good thing to speak the Lord's name on TV.
But don't for a minute think that American Idol is about anything but money. They know that the Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) market is huge, and (while it was probably a contestant's idea) they allowed it to "float" to test the viability of a CCM Idol hit.
Matthew 10:16" "Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves."
PARoss, I tend to look at it from the opposite direction...even a show that calls itself Idol can not silence those who praise the King of kings! Even the rocks would cry out, but this one time, the rocks were silent because His bride declared Him Lord.
I recently found out an unsaved sister of mine loves the song Jesus take the Wheel by Carrie Underwood. If she sings it perhaps she will jump aboard in a moment when she is willing to surrender the wheel of the road she is on to Jesus.
Carrie was an AI and big in country. Provocative utube dress and gestures were disappointing to me but grabbed my 20 year old sister's attention. She can relate to it. The message is clear that the road she is on needs Jesus so I rejoiced in that.
