| How Big Is Your Mess? |
|
| |
4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. It is not the magnitude of the mess that matters most. The mind of the man in the midst of the mess matters most!
So how big is your problem (your mess)? The size of your problem is not the most important consideration in your situation. What you choose to think about your problem is the most important thing.
Remember the 12 spies in the Old Testament? All 12 guys said that the promised land was beautiful and bountiful. But 10 guys said that the defenders (problems) were too big and powerful to be overcome. They said: "We are like grass hoppers in their sight," and suggested that they "move on up to the easy side of the city and leave that mess alone. (my paraphrase)"
Two minds in the midst of the mess, however, (Joshua and Caleb) had the courage and wisdom to disagree with the crowd of negative thinkers. In the midst of their mess they held hands singing "We Shall Overcome Someday" (well not really, but it makes good reading). They did say something like: "Even though the defenders are strong, they can be overcome because God is with us. Let's go get them."
But fear and peer pressure won out as the crowd agreed with the 10 negative reports and ignored the positive account of Joshua and Caleb. Even today when they encounter a mess, most people listen to, consume, and obey the negative instead of the positive, and thus make their mess worse that it needs to be.
So, today, in the midst of your personal mess, make your mind focus on possibilities and blessings no matter how you feel or how things look. Exercise courage and mental might and drive out the negative. You can overcome, but only if you keep your mind on positive. And don't forget that your greatest possibility lies in God's help, favor, and protection.
So look up. Don't panic. Control your mind in the midst of your mess by focusing on the positive. And remember, help is on the way! |

Amen Steve ! Joshua and Caleb were the ONLY ONES who entered the Promised Land [of all the people who were adults at that time]. Folks may slow us down, but if we continue on with God, we will inherit His promises............... Glory to God !! |
