You make some excellent points here, and I agree wholeheartedly. I've written many poems over the last 18 years, but my first real Christian poem was on this very topic. Here it is: Follow Him Was Jesus dressed in royal robes While men were naked - bare? Did men go hungry for lack of food While Christ feasted on royal fare? Did King from heaven, on bed of ease Reside in beautiful home? While men of earth, without a bed Did wander and did roam? No, Christ came down, He left it all Touched by the cries of need! He healed the sick, the lame did walk The hungry He did feed! He took our place, condemned to die And for our sins did bleed. And now, victorious o'er the grave In heaven He does plead. He cries for us to heed the call To see our brother's need. Enough of selfishness and hate Away with all this greed! He will provide from day to day He knows our every need. If we'll just carry our own cross And follow Him, He'll lead! "Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me." (Matthew 16:24) "Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me." (Matthew 19:21) |
