In my viewpoint, history is amazing. Now, I have not always thought this was true, especially in the days where I would sleep or do something else in school besides study my history. My failing grade revealed this truth; however through the tests and trials of life, I have come to know that history and the men and women who lived in it are important. For I have come to know the truth that through the past, God is able to show us more about Him.
Yesterday evening at Bible Study, we began studying Titus. As I began to allow my imagination to take me back in time to try to envision what I was reading, I lost track of time. Before I knew it, it was time to leave. Reality said that I had to move on, but my imagination still wanted to envision the greatness of the lives that I was reading about. It is truly an amazing thing to lose yourself in the Bible! It is awesome to not just hear what these people said, but how they lived. Combine that with how life was at that time, and one can begin to grasp the true meaning of the words that were said. Example: Paul about to be beheaded wrote a letter. Picture yourself in that prison...writing that letter. How passionate...how honest...how important that one letter had to be for Paul. For you see, he longed for the people to not just know how he lived, but that God was the one who was His strength everyday! In his last letter, he did not focus on where he had been in life or the things that he had done. No! He continued to encourage those who lived the faith. He was not concerned about his insurance or anything like that...no he was only wanting to leave the people with words that would encourage them to be men and women of God!
Today, I want to thank God for allowing the life stories of the men and women in the Bible to be passed down throughout the timeline of existance. I want to thank God that His words are still being found true and faithful in life today. God wants you to know that what He did through the men and women in the Bible, He can do through you too. These people did not live life for themselves; however they lived life everyday to show the power that proves the existance and love of the Creator. They relied on the Holy Spirit to guide them each and everyday. When God told them to move, they moved. When God told them to speak, they spoke.
God is desiring....longing....to use you to show His love, power, and presence to a lost and dying world. My friends, the world is tearing itself apart looking for the truth when God is right here right now. The power of God still reigns today. I challenge not just you, but myself as well, to live by the Spirit of God completely. Resist temptation. Flee lusts. Do not even put on the appearance of sin. Walk in the Spirit. Trust in God. Lean not to your understanding or the laws and ways of man. See God make the impossible possible.
Yes, my friends...I praise God for what He has done throughout time. I praise God that He has chosen to share it with us through His word. Take His word and study it! Hide it in your heart. Go to Bible Study. Go to Sunday School. Do not just hear it. Live it. Experience it.
If you could write your grandchildren's history book...how would it read? Would God be sanctified and glorified through you in the midst of a sin filled world? Would your family be saved because of your faith in God? Would God use your writings to help encourage those who are struggling in the faith? Would people walk with God because you chose to walk with God?
Or...would you continue to allow the newsmedia to predict and forecast a world without God. Would you continue to allow the schools to teach your children that there is no God or that they have the "freedom" to choose who thier God is? Would you continue to let your circumstances determine your destiny? What you do today will affect the world in the future. Trust in God and let Him write history (His-tory) through you.
