Religion versus Christianity

    In the study of the Bible you come accross many different phrases. One called, Amphibologia
Am-phib-o-log'-i-a )Greek)            A statemen that is amphibological is has two meanings, both of which are absolutely true. (An equivocation has two meanings also, but only one of them is true.)

         An example of this would be in Acts xvii 22 "Ye men of Athens, in all things I perceive that ye are very religious." (See R.V. margin somewhat religious). In the K.J.V. it is worded, "Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.=more religiously disposed than others." (slightly stronger)
        This has two interpretations: for they were truly very "religious," (as well pointed out back in 1898 by the great E W Bullenger.) and yet knew nothing of true Christianity.
        We thus learn that Christianity is religion; but religion is not necessarily Christianity.
        To say that a person is religious tells us nothing: for he may be a Buddhist, a Mohammedan, a Roman Catholic, or a votary of any other religious system; but it does not follow that such a one "is in Christ", and therefore a Christian.

        Using the same sentence, we find a Protherapeia (Pro-ther-a-pei-a) (Greek) previous care and treatment, from before, and service.

         religion, (deisidaimonesteros), careful in the discharge of religious service. For religion in itself is nothing. It depends entirely on what the religion is, whether true or false.

   Bullenger also points out: There are only two religions in the world; and there have never been more from Gen 4 to the present day. They are put in the forefront of Revelation. Abel's and Cain's;
God's way and man's attempted improvement on it.

    All false religions agree on one thing. They are all alike, and at one in demanding that the sinner must do something, be something, give, pay feel experience, or produce something, to merit God's favor. They quarrel bitterly as to what that something is to be. Controversies rage concerning it; the blood of marters has been shed; battles have been fought; but yet they are all agreed that the sinner must say, "Something in my hand I bring."

        Whereas the one and only true religion is expressed in the words,
         "NOTHING in my hand I bring."

      So that a man may be very religious," and yet be unsaved, and "far off" from God (Eph 2:13)

        I hope this explains why I remain non-denominational. As I only believe in God's Word. Not man's!!     God bless!!

Not sure when my brother, but at some point the church picked up on bringing items to the storehouse for use in the temple and now relate that bringing to the determination of salvation. It is one of the major complaints that Martin Luther had with the catholic church.

It has become so prevalent that the ensuing conversations happen frequently. My wife was at choir rehearsal the other night and a member that had not been for a few Sundays was there. Her reason? She could not pay her tithes.

Now golden, I personally spend little time talking about tithing(that's just me) and I certainly do not teach it is the way to salvation but somehow it is ingrained in this members thought process.

I suspect many others have been made to feel that way.

It is Biblical to tithe were you are fed. I have never read where it is a way to salvation.
One must pay their bills first. I don't believe god is begging for money. I do believe in giving money to a good church of my choice.
I would not go to a church that passes a plate. That to me is begging. People give when they feel a good Pastor is feeding them the true Word.
That is a big problem today. Not many can discern the Word correctly. Though they claim to know what they are talking about. Most of them will avoid this blog like the plague.
