| WHAT IS YOUR STORY? April 21, 2008 |
|
| |
Everyone has a story to tell. Everyone has a song to sing. Everyone has a poem to write. Everyone has a painting to draw. How we choose to share these things that we hold close to our hearts is up to us.
Lately, I have been watching the series "Lost". I guess that one could say that I am becoming hooked on the television series, all thanks to a special someone in my life. If you have not seen the show, then I can say briefly that it is about a group of people's stories as they face life lost on this island. Now I have not seen too much past the first 15 episodes of season one, but I can say that it made me begin thinking about things.
God has brought us all together for a reason and for a season. We were born where we were born for a reason. For some people, they were born with a stable family and finances. For some, it could have be that they were born in a Christian home with parents that reverenced God. For others, the stable family that could have been is non-existant due to the choices made by the generations before them. These choices could have opened up the doors of the family to abuse, neglect, alcoholism, drugs, etc. Some of these homes could have been families that said that they served God in public, but when the doors of the house shut...it was a different story.
Some people are able to take thier childhoods and learn from it to better thier lives and the lives of those around them. For others, it was too much, and so they run and hide from it. No matter what the past has declared, we all have the opportunity to begin new seasons of our lives and a new chapter in our story.
Today, I heard a story of a man that I have never heard before. I heard a brief synopsis of his life before he gave it to Christ. It was a story that I could never have imagined he would have shared. However, there it was being described to me in detail.
Tonight, I looked at myself in the mirror. Deep in my eyes, I saw where I have been, what I have seen, and the people I have met....and I began to cry. For my story is not one that I am not proud of and not ready to share. There are things that I wished never would have happened...things I wished I could change. But I can not. You may be asking what all of this has to do with the show "Lost" or how all of this relates.
Well, my friend, even though I am not yet willing to share some of my life with those around me, I still praise God for what He has done. For He has taken a life of a young man dwelling in darkness and brought in the light and the love that He has for us all. He has taken a man who continually fails and picks him up again. He continually takes this "lost" son and brings him home again to Him.
Tonight, take the time to remember where God has brought you from. You may not be ready to share some of the pain that has taken place, but remember this one thing. You never know who need to hear your story. You never know who needs to hear the story of how God saved you. For it may be that one story, one song, one poem, or one painting that draws them into the kingdom forever.
Everyone has a story to tell. Everyone has a song to sing. Everyone has a poem to write. Everyone has a painting to draw. Everyone has felt loneliness. Everyone has felt heartache. Everyone has felt pain.
But not everyone has felt the loving arms of Jesus Christ healing the brokeness of the past. If you can not share your story...share His.

Jeremy, don't worry my friend, none of us are ever expected to be proud of the life we lived before Christ took control of our hearts. Every one of us has regrets, every one of us has many things we either won't share or are extremely careful about who we share it with. There's no shame in that Jeremy!
I love your conclusion, except I would urge folks to share their story and his, because they are both inextricably intertwined! His (Jesus') story is significant to you only because your story would have ended so hopelessly w/o him!!!
Love ya, ~mike
ps... I disagree with one thing..."Everyone has a poem to write." (I can't do poetry, so prefer prose! lol)

Mike,
Thank you for your response. I totally understand and agree with what you are saying. I should have made it clearer that I am not ashamed of what Christ did to my life, in fact I praise Him for that.
~ Jeremy Also...there is nothing wrong with prose. ~ Jeremy |

Nothing can change how I think of you. In fact, when I do hear of what God has saved you from, I know it will only deepen my love and respect for you. BTW, "special someone"??? Does my whipper snapper friend have a girlfriend? Hehe. You don't have to answer that. Just trying to make you blush! |

Lara,
Yes, this young whipper snapper friend has a girlfriend who is so AWESOME. We have known each other for 5 years and God is truly awesome to have blessed me with a woman like her.

Thanks for this post :) If your story helps someone else.......then you need to tell it to them. God will direct you in who to tell :) We all, have a story........and it's not comfortable revealing where I came from at times. But, praise God, that when I fall and when I'm not loveable........He Still Loves Me. I do put some of my story into poetry....... :) |
