As a long time Christian, I increasingly mourn as I see deception and evil all around. It seems that we all live on Deception Island.
Talk radio is an example. There, so called experts in every field known to man, give their views, advice, direction to a society that is lost. These experts spout empty-headed, godless fluff, but people sit at their feet like little children goo-ing and ah-ing about foolishness they call wisdom.
Politics is another example. People run for office, saying in effect that THEY are our Saviors. THEY claim to have the solutions to all our problems, when the truth is, the world is run by people who don't have a clue.
Fashion is not about modesty and beauty, but sex and sleaze. Even nice Christian girls are fooled into thinking that their blubbery belly should hang out or their mini skirt should almost show what they had for breakfast. Guys think that they are somehow "independent" if they blindly follow some ugly fashion that makes them look like a fool.
Much of what passes for popular music is not about quality and training, but about some skinny guy, with a sunken chest, who sings off key, but who somehow gets the votes, because he's got the "look" - whatever that means. It's not about lyrics that really mean something deep but about fornication, adultery and lust.
Sitcoms are not about family values, or even more important Christian values, but about adding the token gay guy, whom we have to accept as "normal" and not perverted, the premarital sex, which we have to accept as "normal" and not destructive, and it's about the values of a degenerate society, which we have to accept as "normal" and not totally evil.
Young faces on TV telling us how to live life? Are you kidding? The elderly, who if anybody has a clue they do, are ignored, sidelined and shunned, while some "expert on life" in his or her 20's tells us on TV what it's all about. Why do we choose to put some young face on TV who doesn't have a clue? In TV-land's wisdom, beauty is more valued than true wisdom. Fooey!
Books? We don't ask someone who has had a successful marriage for 50 years or more, but some young buck who doesn't have much experience at all in life goes and tells us that "Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus" and we all go, "Ooooooh! Wow!" And, while we ignore our grandparents' far superior wisdom, we gladly pay some young "experts" $30 for their books. What wiz dum!
I also mourn as I see false Christian values, which are substitutes for biblical values. I see televangelist fads and imprisoning traditions, that maquerade as Christianity, denying the power of Christ. I see money as more important than suffering for Christ. I see Christians who excuse their plundering of the environment claiming that their big gas guzzling cars and material excesses are God's blessing. I see preachers who are weak as milk toast, just spouting sheepy Sunday platitudes, rather than proclaiming Jesus as the ONLY Savior to a society that is on its way to hell.
Jesus said, blessed are they that mourn, and I count that as comfort. What about you? Do you mourn the fact that the whole world seems to live on Deception Island?
