| Empty handed? |

Recently I was reading through Exodus and was struck by some of God's very specific instructions to the Israelites. In particular, the second part of Exodus 23:15: "No one is to appear before me empty-handed."
When I read this, immediately the Holy Spirit convicted me. How many times do I appear before the Lord in prayer, not only with empty hands, but with grasping hands expecting to be filled with his provision?
I had to repent.
But after doing so, I was puzzled. If I am not to come empty handed, what then do I have that is a sufficient offering to the King of Kings? It was then that God led me to Hebrews 13:15: "Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise —the fruit of lips that confess his name."
We are to always go before God with his praise in our hands. We are to "Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name." ~ Psalm 100:4
1 Timothy 2:8 says we are "to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing."
Don't go before God empty handed. Instead lift up your hands and pour out your praise before him.
"Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise." ~Revelation 5:12 |
