12:13 The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man. Reverence is a feeling of profound awe and respect and often love which includes heart felt submission. Words we use to describe reverence is admire, adore, appreciate, cherish, esteem, exalt, honor, love, magnify, pay homage, regard, and respect. Wouldn't you agree that it seems as a culture we have lost respect for everything we once held dear. We were once taught to respect our Parents, our Elders, Respect the Law, the Police, our elected officals, and each other I could go on and on. I believe this attitude has rubbed off on Christians we no longer respect and reverence God the way we used to. We have become casual with God. Dare I say that we have reduced Him down to our level rather than Him bringing us up to His level?
Scripture is very clear in it's command for us to reverence God. Psalm 111:19 "Holy and Awesome is His name. Hebs 10:31 "It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of a living God." Gal 6:7 "Do not be deceived: God can not be mocked." Duet 6:13 "Fear the Lord your God, serve Him only, do not follow other gods, for the Lord your God who is among you, is a jealous God."
Do you remember the story of Uzza? It can be found in II Samuel 6:1-7. This is a story that seems kind of strange. Uzza disrespected the presence of God. The Ark of the Covenant (which represented God's presence) was being transported into Jerusalem. However, God had always intended for the Ark to be transported by His priests that were sactified and set apart for God's service. Yet King David did not follow the instructions of God and the Ark was transported via donkey's and a wagon. As the Ark began to slip off of the wagon and began to fall Uzza a well intentioned man reached forward to steady the Ark and immeadiately he died. The Bible says, ". "The Lord's anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down and he died there beside the ark of God. " II Sam 6:7 Tommy Tenny wrote in his book "THE GOD CHASERS" "No flesh can co-exist with God, and even though Uzza meant well, God will never allow the arm of flesh to glory in His presence without tasting death. Only dead men can see God's face, and only repentant dead flesh can touch His glory." Uzza died because He was ignorant! He had no idea what he was dealing with or whom he was dealing. I am sure he thought he was doing the right thing and pleasing God by steadying the ark, but God wanted it done His way not man's way. What does Uzza's experience teach us today? Uzza's experience teaches us that we must cherish and respect the presence of God. God's ways are not our ways and must never force God to conform to us but rather we must conform to Him. The Scripture commands us not to quench, or greive the Sprit of God. But we constantly disrespect God out of ignorance like Uzza. It is time for the church to recapture the awesomeness of our God. He is Holy, He is just! He is our Creator, Sustainer, Redeemer, and Friend. He is not our "Buddy" the "Man up Stairs" "The Big Guy" "You know Who" He is someone to be loved, honored, cherished, admired, adored, and respected! Let us never take for granted the presence of our Loving Lord. He is always with us He says. His Holy Spirit lives within you. Don't be ignorant about the fact that He is ever present, and that He does not change. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is holy, He is true, and is perfect in all His ways. We need to bear this in mind and respect and honor Him every moment of every day.
Fear God and keep His commandments for this is the whole duty of man.

When we have the right attitude or feelings or whatever towards God we are filled up to the very brim with His Spirit. How happy we are then, how confident, how secure. No matter what the circumstances of our lives. Take Stephen the first martyr in the New Testiment. How happy he was being stoned. This is what I want!!! Well not nessesarily the stoning part but if I'm filled to the brim with the Spirit of my Lord, what would it matter anyways...right? Our God is sooooo awesome, I never want to forget that!!!! Thank you Brother Todd.

Amen, He is NOT our "buddy"!!! Too many people, see Him as just a friend, NOT as the Creator and Master of our lives!!!

thank you for putting us in our place..........yes, the Lord calls us His friend........but we should also remember that He is so much more than that to us and we should respect and honor Him and show reverence to Him in all the things He is to us not just treat Him like a friend and that is all.........

Amen, Amen Amen ---- HOLY IS HIS NAME
Respect does not carry the weight that it use to.... It has been cheapen by man and reduced to just a word...... Our Father will not accept lack of respect from anyone and I pray that many will not turn out to be like Uzza.....
