I think what the Father is trying to show me is that He has always been there.  Gently guiding me and showing me the truth.

When I was 7 and my brother was 5, we walked to the store by our selves, we used to do that all the time back then, we took some bubble gum without paying, we walked back home and my mom asked where we were, we told her, and she walked us back to the store and made us tell the manager what we had done... that memory stuck with me so strongly, I never stole another thing after that!

If only all children grew up with parents like that Gary.  Your Mom did good.

Isn't it great that God is Father to the fatherless!!

The following verses seem so apropos to you Ruth and your situation then, and now!

Psalms 68:1-6 (NASB)

  1Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered,
         And let those who hate Him flee before Him.
    2As smoke is driven away, so drive them away;
         As wax melts before the fire,
         So let the wicked perish before God.
    3But let the righteous be glad; let them exult before God;
         Yes, let them rejoice with gladness.
    4Sing to God, sing praises to His name;
         Lift up a song for Him who rides through the deserts,
         Whose name is the LORD, and exult before Him.

    5A Father of the fatherless and a judge for the widows,
         Is God in His holy habitation.
    6God makes a home for the lonely;
         He leads out the prisoners into prosperity,
         Only the rebellious dwell in a parched land.

My Mom and Dad took me (and the family) all the way back to a Toll Road Rest Stop Resturant (reversed at a turnaround!!) to make me return one of those tiny little "disposable" cream bottles (about the size of a 1.50 stack of quarters) with a paper stopper that I had liberated from the resturant. It made an impression on me.

God bless that officer and thank the Lord for his mercy!

And God bless you, Ruth!
