| My Server's Testimony |
|
| |
After church today a group of us from the church went out to eat. It was a pretty big crowd about 25 of us including the children. From working previously in the restaurant business, we always hated doing large parties, partly because of the confusion, but also because it usually meant very low tips. As we started to converse witih our waitress we started joking about "us church people" who come in eat all the food (it was a buffet) and leave a mess behind. Our server said, that's not the problem I have with church people. She said it a nicely as she could but you could tell, she was hurt and put off by it, "church people are the worst!" "They are the most demanding, picky, impolite of the all people I deal with." She said, I don't really care about the tips she said, if they are nice and friendly, and pleasant to deal with, Hey that's ok if they only leave a dollar if that is all they have." She continued, "There are these 2 ladies that come in every week, all dressed up,coming from the church down the road, but they are just as mean as snakes!" She ended the conversation with, "Well, I guess they left Jesus at the church." WOW! What a profound statement! Imagine that! Leaving Jesus at the church?
How many people does God give us an opportunity to come in contact with and be a blessing to them? Yet, how many times are we so self focused that we fail to see the opportunity to be a blessing to someone else? There are so many people that need to be won to Christ, and there are those that have been hurt by the church that we could woo back with just a little compassion and kindness. The Apostle Paul said that we are "Ambassadors of Christ." Meaning that we represent our Lord in everything we do. What a shame that we prevent others from coming to the knowledge of the Lord because of our poor behavior and bad attitudes. Some one told me once: What you are doing speaks so loudly that I can't hear what you are saying.
Let us not be stumbling blocks that prevent people from coming to Christ, rather let's be stepping stones that lead the way to Christ. When we are out in public, let us always be mindful that we are representing Christ in every situation, every conversation, and every thing we do. If you have Christian bumper sticker on your car, you better not flip people off as you pass them! Do you know what I mean? If you are wearing a Christian T-shirt, make sure you are not walking out of the Adult Book Store! A city on a hill can not be hid, we are the light of the world! Let our light so shine before men that they will glorify our Father in Heaven rather than having them call us hypocites and preventing them from knowing Jesus.
2:14 Do all things without grumbling or questioning, 2:15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, |

| Brother Todd... what a good lesson... thank you so much. Before I met Christ I had similar things happen to me as well... and I didn't have a very good impression of "church people" either. But Christ chased me down and would not let go...he captured me in spit of it . How grateful... I am for His perseverence, his love, and his forgivness when I have been a poor witness for HIm. God bless you brother. |

| Great blog Todd, We need to be AWARE at ALL times that we BELONG to the Lord. We are the salt of the world....let's start seasoning...yeah! |

| we really need to be aware of our actions and the people who are noticing them....i once had a lady at a convient store that said she didn't like working sundays that much because when the church people let out and came into the store they would mess up the bathrooms really bad, she said you would think they are clean people but they are the nastiest people......i thought about what she said and the conclusion that i drawed from that was, that some christain might feel more holier than lost people......and that because they are lost and don't know the lord, it is o.k. if we dirty things up,(that's what they get for not knowing the Lord like us,right?) how are we to every win people to Christ (because that is our job after all) if we can't even look at people in a different way.....we look at them if though they were dirty,so why not give them dirt.........ACTIONS |

Great message Todd. I like this link to a blog on a specific scripture thing going on. When my boys were little they had a story book tape call "Copy Cats". Part of the tape had a song that went something like, "live what you've believe and they will see, 'cause actions speak louder than words!" They would sing it all the time. thanks for the insight. peace |

Thanks Glenn, ......Casting Crowns has a song out called "What this world needs" One of the lines in the song, is "people don't have a problem with the gospel, they have a problem with us." Ouch! That hurts! Nobody is perfect, but we can at least try and give our best effort right? |
