Ah, Mike, you're catching on...and I shall star your blog!!!

LOL!!!

Yes Mike, as much as Grace is a hobby-horse doctrine of mine...I only star the blogs where I agree completely!  Lots of grace on my part, wouldn't you say?  Well I agree with this one, so here's your star.  A star is like an "Amen" to me.

Mary Ann, glad you approve of the borrowed content! There is some subtle promotion in that too!

Sue, I've enjoyed giving hearty "amens" to quite a few blogs! But there were many more I enjoyed that I did not star. Given the sheer # of registrants to this site, I think it's kind of sad to see so few stars!!! So I will try harder to do my part. ~mike

Hi Mike, It's my bed time, and I happen to have one star left for today, so you can have it!  I think you're right that many readers do not understand about stars.  Thanks for the directions, and your subtle promotion is a derserving one!

Is there a spiritual metaphor in your offer that I'm missing?

Okay, I'll bite. Cathy, I will take you to dinner and you don't have to star my blogs. It will be a free gift...

PS Mike, you don't have to download the smileys. Just right click, copy, paste.

Why then does Mychurch base their "popular" status on stars. If we star everyones blog whos will be on the board. It only holds so many blogs.

I don't see what's wrong with merrit. It doesn't mean you don't like the person if you don't star them. Why take it personally? Receiving a star just means that you struck a chord in someones heart. Or it could mean that you made an excelent point. Not receiving one could simply mean the message isn't one for the people who read it. Or perhaps they are in a different season.

I believe that the purpose here is to air our feelings, ask questions and get feed back so we can sharpen each others iron. There is also a friend to friend way to communicate for those of us who wish to send a more personal message to one or a small group of bloggers. I believe that this would help keep the board open for all of us and give equal time for everybody.

After all the motive here is not to be "popular" or achieve stars but to connect and communicate.

Can I get a star for a response?

Hey Craig,

Nothing at all wrong with merit, that wasn't my point. It just seemed slightly ironic, the contrast between the system of stars (merit) and God's acceptance/love. So I will continue to star more and more, as a means of "spreading the love." Blogs also go to the top when people comment on them, which is a great idea and not "merit based".

O-----kay, I think the mystery may have been solved.  Let me guess.....Mike signed up you TWO names instead of one (Mike and Laura) under ONE profile.  Therefore, he and ONLY he has the power to double star!  Is this it???????????????????????

I would also like to know, How does one receive the highly-coveted, obviously-patent, nobody-else-but-Mike-can-do, double star???  I just know that I will have to make sure I keep in good graces with this "double-star" man of MyChurch!

We were have a discussion about this on the following blog, and I simply put the pieces of the puzzle together.

Here's my little ol' point of view:  I'd rather have a comment, negative or positive, than a star.
Mike n Laura
May 18, 2007
Jen, I would too! But in the absence of a comment, a star will more than suffice! But then, a comment AND a star really is the best of BOTH worlds now, isn't it? :-)  ~mike

As I've mentioned before (although I'm become a bit more free with my stars), there is actually a purpose to why I star something.  If you star something you can find it again.  It's a bookmark of sorts.  I would say where you'd find this but it looks like they're in the midst of a redesign so I don't know if it will stay there.

BTW, that's not to say I wouldn't like to be able to separate the stars and the bookmarking. :)

May 18, 2007
Hey Norm, that sounds like a marvelous idea for the development team. Do you see the "forum" link at the bottom of this page? There should be a forum for ideas for new or improved features on MyChurch. Another method would be to "message" the MyChurch team directly, I think they're ok with that. They are all great and motivated people! ~mike

ps.... I think everybody has a method for their star madness.  True, some are far looser with their stars.  I personally love the concept of "grace stars", simply to make people feel treasured and appreciated.

You haven't been to the forums lately have you?  ;) I've been busy (which is why I've also been dropping hints elsewhere of things I would like because I think I've suggested too many things there)

Anyways I suggested that a week or two ago.  I actually want something where it would keep track of the last places I commented in without a star or without me having to bookmark.  And then I wanted the ability publish that.  (Of course I had to throw the stalking comment in but hey none of us are perfect. :) )  And I wanted it without sending the e-mail (instead I think I convinced the myChurch team to autocheck the e-mail this flag)

Not that I'm whining or anything (ok maybe I am) . Sorry about that.

All that said, I didn't know that the forum link was also down there (or maybe it wasn't before).  I had been going through Contact us.

May 19, 2007

No, I haven't been to the forums lately. Posted a suggestion there a couple months ago, haven't been back -- I don't get many ideas. If you went through "Contact us" that's a good place to start too. They're so responsive, I love that!

May 19, 2007
:)  If you click on Contact Us (which used to be at the top of the screen) you'll find that there is a link to the forums on that page.  So I ended up in the forums, just didn't know there was a direct link.

Well, maybe not those kinds of ideas.

Hey Norm, do people ever tell you that you've got the gift of encouragement?

Norm, you've been posting many comments to this blog. I think you need to star it so you can find it easily, to quote your chief reason for starring blogs... ;-)

Hey Norm, do people ever tell you that you've got the gift of encouragement?

Um no.  Because typically the gift of heavy handedness wakes them up.  I think I need to work that into my profile.

And I guess I haven't starred this.  Whodothunkit?

Hahaha --heavyhandedness... you don't scare me!

ps.. thanks for the star!  :-)

August 14, 2007
You're always welcome, Kathy! Why thank you for the star, Dave!  NOW, at long last, the "star blog" has as many stars as the blog used in the example (pictured).  Hey Cheese, I'm calling you out. You said "now that I have the last few comments on here my ego says its worth a star now" but you never starred it!  What up wi dat?

October 09, 2007
Thanks for the info, I will use it but I wonder... if you really like a blog is it alright (or possible) to star it more than once? Is that considered cheating? Do you need to leave and come back to star again or at least to ease your concious?? Or is it like American Idol where you get in as many votes as you can to make a difference for the one you support?

Truely wondering...

And while we're at it what does the "reader" number mean next to the stars. I have seen some with a star or two but no readers. How are readers added?

Miss Manners will need a new edition to her book now!

Thanks!!

HAHA great questions Shirley! Unfortunately we have only one star to give per blog. Like a little, one star. Like it a WHOLE LOT? One star.

As for the "reader" number, that is the # of subscribers to the blog. When you visit someone's blog, you will see a link at the top of the page to "Subscribe to this blog" or something like that. Click it and you can track when they post new entries from your own site.

Does that help? :-0 Thanks for the star! ~mike

Oh, that makes sense... So you can tract other comments. I wondered why subscribe to a bog if you've already read it. That does help. Thanks! Too bad we can't vote more than once but it is fair!

I think that you should do an updated one of how to star them since this new star system came out, which of course I am not a fan of. >-<'
