12:15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble [you], and thereby many be defiled; See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. Hebrews 12:15 (NIV)
Like a small root that grows into a great tree, bitterness springs up into our hearts and exceeds even the most genuine Christian relationship. A root of bitterness comes when we allow past hurts to grow into resentment, or when we hold grudges. Bitterness often comes from pass hurts, rejection, disappointments, abandonment, or abuse. A root of bitterness will not just sit still it is like a cancer it continues to grow, and grow it eats you up inside until it overflows into present relationships.
Bitterness brings with it a spirit of rebellion, immorality, (iniquity) these become things that we carry in our hearts, and it is not hurting the other person but you become bound to that person because of all of the resentment, and grudges that you are holding. Ephesians 4:31 tells us “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.” Therefore, isn’t it time to let it go haven’t this bitterness done enough to you. You can remove the root of bitterness by filling your heart with forgiveness.
Prayer:
Father we thank you and honor you, we lift you up and give you all the praise you are truly worthy to be praise. Lord we ask that you would search our hearts and if you find any bitterness, resentment, grudges, un-forgiveness remove it in the name of Jesus. Create in us a clean heart and renew a right spirit within us. We pray that you would give us the new heart a heart of your spirit. Fill us with forgiveness in the name of Jesus the Christ we pray amen.
