I remember when we moved into our first home, the family that we bought the house from left their huge freezer in the basement, because it was too big and old (and a drain on the electric), and they didn’t want to have to move it. I was thrilled, because we could now get a half of a cow (hamburger, steak, etc.) and have room to freeze it! (My father-in-law was a beef farmer.)

One day I went down to get some meat out of the freezer, only to open it up to a sickeningly disgusting smell…the freezer was not freezing…I thought perhaps it might have conked out, since it was old. But no, that wasn’t it. It was unplugged. Yep, you heard me right, it was unplugged! My dear husband had been working down in the basement and needed to use the electrical outlet that the freezer was plugged into. I don’t remember what he was doing, or why he had to unplug the freezer, but he failed to plug it back in. Which of course, resulted in a freezer full of meat rotting and stinking…and believe me, I wasn’t the one that cleaned it up!

I think perhaps this is a lot like us humans before we accept Jesus. We are just a bunch of rotten, stinking individuals, unplugged from the source of our being on this earth. Thinking that we can live this life on our own, without a power source. But the true energy for our lives is only found in Jesus, and without Him, we tend to make a mess of things.

When we moved out of that house, we did not take the freezer with us.  We bought another one from a friend, and froze beef again...until lightening hit and the outlet the freezer was plugged into, blew a fuse, and we didn't know about it.  Yep, we lost another freezer full of meat.  Maybe God is trying to tell us something?

We cannot rely on this world to keep us going.  There is always going to be something that is going to knock us down or out, like unplugging the freezer or having lightening strike.  The only One we can rely on is Jesus, and He can never be unplugged, or hit by lightening.
