When i was a small boy, i went to a very small country Babtist Church. And when i say small it was small. On any given sunday if there were 13 people there it was crowded. We always had a new preacher every 6 months or so. And it seemed that their message's were all the same. { God will punish you if you do wrong.} And as i grew up in that church i started believing that i did not want to serve a God like that. How could anyboby serve a God and have to walk around on egg shells. I mean they were Hell Fire and Brimstone sermons. Fist on the bible, pulpit slaming, eyes buldging, red faced sermons. I admit, i was afraid of God. Know i am not afraid of Him anymore. I have a healthy fear of God, but i am not afraid of him. The bible teachs that we should walk boldly into the throne room. Back then it was all God preached. I knew that Jesus died on a cross, He rose again in 3 days, He was born in a manger, and that was about it. God will punish you for that. God is going to get you if you keep doing that. If that were so, then we would be still living in the Old Testament right. Now i am getting the teaching that i should have gotten a long time ago. I mean don't get me wrong, i learned a lot from those preacher's. God bless them because they all had a healthy respect for God. And i believe that i learned a lot from them. But i was never tought that i was covered by the blood, that Jesus died and took on the weight of all the worldly sins. That He died for all our past,present, and future sins. I did not know that we were under the mercy seat. Now i know that God is a merciful God. It is His perfect plan that everyone should come to know Him, and recieve salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. Who am I, I am who the bible says I am. A child of God, An heir to the throne, and so, so much more. Some times it is good to get some of that old time preaching, as long as you have a healthy dose of Jesus afterward. |
