"Set Your Mind"
Matthew 22:34-40 The Pharisees tried to trap Jesus by asking Him "Which is the great commandment in the law?" Jesus said to him, "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." HEART, SOUL, & MIND represent a whole person, if one is missing we are not whole!
Everything a Christian does should be motivated out of our love for God. God created us to have a relationship with Him.
From the beginning, He knew Adam & Eve would choose sin. He already had a plan to save mankind... a slow revelation (for stupid human beings to absorb)... built a relationship with the nation of Israel... sent prophets to share His Word... sent His Son to bear our sins on the cross - all so we could have a direct relationship with Him.
He gave us free will. We make our own choices - setting our minds on what we will do. He greatly desires that we would choose Him, either way, we have to make a choice.
Once we choose Him, He requires us to "...be Holy, as I am Holy" We should make every effort to strive for the perfection He asks of us.
satan sends us negative thoughts and ideas - we choose whether or not to accept or reject those thoughts. We can choose to change those thoughts to the Will of God. We need to set our minds on Him and take those thoughts into captivity.
Ephesians 4:22-24 It's a choice to put on the new man and put off the corrupt man. We must do this DAILY by the renewing of our minds.
The enemy would love nothing more than to destroy us and pull us away from God. We have protection from these attacks when we allow the Spirit of God to renew our minds each day.
Colossians 3:1-2 Seek those things above, not earthly things.
Are our minds set on things above or things of the earth? Have we set our minds to please God or ourselves?
Romans 8:5-7 Those living according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh. But those who live in The Spirit set their minds on the things of The Spirit.
carnal mind = death Spirit-filled mind = life and peace
The carnal mind is against God. Flesh is temporal, here today, gone tomorrow. The absence of peace is discord, unrest, insecurity. The Spirit of God is peace. God does not cause confusion or discord. The enemy of our souls is the author of confusion.
Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
The daily renewal of our minds is the only way to assure we have life and peace. Even though we may be in the midst of difficult situations, The Spirit of God can give us peace.
We cannot have the peace of The Spirit if we do not set our minds on Christ.
