| Rockin' on the Rock or Rocky Soil |

Enthusiasm is sometimes sus' (suspect). We're often skeptical when someone seems to make an impulsive decision to follow Jesus, because we've seen so many such people not make the distance.
It's like what Jesus taught about planting seeds in rocky soil. It can fool you, because a seed in rocky soil can grow quickly. However, it does not always find good root and can quickly wither in the hot sun.
That's elementary — Gardening 101.
The same is true of the message about Jesus and his kingdom. How deep are our roots in Christ and his Church? Our reaction to suffering and troubles will let us know.
Will we endure to the very end, even when the going gets tough? 13:5 Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they had not much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, 13:6 but when the sun rose they were scorched; and since they had no root they withered away.
13:20 As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 13:21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.
