| When We Don't Draw Near To God |

Practical Steps for Effective Quiet Times
1. Schedule time with God. Your devotional time is like anything else you intend to do. Unless it planned, it usually wont' happen Specifically, before you go to bed, try to decide on a time and place to be alone with the Father the next day. 2. Choose a place. If possible, conduct your quiet time in the same location every day. Eventually, this spot will take on special significance. Being there will affect your mood and your ability to concentrate. Choose a place off the beaten path of your daily activities. You need a place where the only thing you do there is meet with God. No matter where you live, you can find a spot to be alone with God. 3. Use a variety of methods. If spending time with Him has become monotonous, the culprit is probably your method. The cure is to modify your routine. Remember, this is a relationship. Look for ways to keep it fresh, and your quiet times won't be boring.

For my quiet time,I always keep my Bible, notebook, pens, high lighter, and if I any book I may be studying in a tote bag. It's easy to pick up and go anywhere at any time.(Great when you're the mother of 5) In another tote bag I keep my study Bible and a dictionary along with notebook and pens. What ideas do others have? |

Those are excellent ideas and I thank you for sharing them!
My (study) Bible is in a tote cover with pockets that allows me to keep it, my devotional, my dictionary, and my writing accessories all in one place. I keep it laying on my book of maps (the ones in my bible are too hard for my old eyes to see). I picked that cover up for less than $3 at ChristianBookstore.com.

| Like the pockets idea along with teh maps.Someone recently told me they kept their stuff in a basket, complete with cards for those times when God laid it upon their heart to drop someone a line of encouragement.Thought about incorporating that into my tote system. |

| Now that is a good idea and I think I'll do the same! Thank you again!! |

I had to change to the BIG READER Bible. I too had a basket. Now I just need to dig out a bigger one. The notes? They are great too.
It's wonderful when a name pops into your mind and act on it. I wish I could drive, but the telephone, mail and email are great things. |

I pray myself to sleep and go outside and give thanks. I have my dog Maddie, and we used to break bread together first thing in the morning. I'm on strong meds for my Arthritis, and I don't up as easily as before.
I need to restructure "habits". Your blog is so good in that it is making me think hard about getting as close as I can to God. I can do much better than I have been. |

I don't think any of us are as close to Him as we need to be! In these last days (and I believe we are in the end of days), drawing close to God should be our first priority.
I found a tote bag works great too for keeping things together and being mobile. |

I used to have a basket and I took it outside to do my quiet time :) I would have coffee with God's Word in the mornings. I now do it inside, and find if I get offtrack one day...........my day is ruined |

Coffee & God's Word..outside with His creation.....what a beautiful thought!
My day just drags on and on if I don't take time with our Father. |
|
|
| I, also, journaled all my prayers, with dates and everything and I journaled what I learned that day and what was going on in my life. It's interesting to go back through those! |
