So my hubby and I started our day by going to the corps to donate some groceries for the food pantry. The food pantry is empty and we have nothing to give to families in need. All the Salvation Army resources are down to zero, so now we are asking the community to donate items. As soldiers I feel we should be the first ones to help.
To our surprise a local TV channel was there and interview us about our reasong for giving and the desperate need of the food program. My husband recently lost his job due to recession and we are down to zero ourselves. We have God who helps us daily, many of these families don't and we wanted to share of the little bit that we had. It was truly a ministry opportunity.
We felt humbled by the experience. Our plan was to spend a couple of hours helping the corps with any volunteer needs and not come out on tv. God is always full of surprises. |
