I have a wonderful role model on how to be a grandparent......my mom.
My first two grandkids are step-grandkids......I have told them that they are my "special" grandkids, gifts from God, because they have a choice, unlike my blood grandkids, as to whether they want me for their grandma........
I, also, decided from the beginning to be my grandkids friend. I want them to be able to come to me with stuff in their lives, if they are uncomfortable with going to their parents.......this works well already.
Four of my grandkids don't live near me.......but phone calls are great....my daughter n love started putting to phone to their ear while they were babies so they would know my voice. I do get to see them about once a month :)
I feel it's my job to help teach them about God, not only in speaking of God, but in my actions.
I don't have resources to buy things for them like their other grandparents....BUT, what I give them is much more valuable and will stay with them through their lives.......I give them my time, my love, and my love for God.......I play with them, I take time to snuggle them, and I pray for them.

You sound like a wonderful grandparent!  My great-grandmother was my personal role-model: she made sure I knew about the love of God while I was very young and continued to mentor me in that love until she was promoted home.

We don't have a lot of money either but, you know, the most important things can't be bought with money! Praise God for that Truth!!

We've been lucky that our children and grandchildren have lived close to us all this time. When one set of grandchildren are moved over 300 miles away, it will be the first time our family has ever been seperated.  That move, to be made in June, lays on my heart like a stone.

Thank you for taking the time to read the article and leave a comment.  Please come visit again :)

Thanks! You know, I don't remember one single thing that my grandparents bought me, but I do remember the time they spent with me.......walks in the woods and things like that.
I will be praying for you about this move.

Money....I think I've heard of that somewhere....lol

You know, of the gifts I've received in my lifetime, the ones I cherish are the ones that were "homemade". You know you're loved when someone takes time for you.
