And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. But Jesus answered and said, "Permit even this." And He touched his ear and healed him. Luke 22:50-51Overwhelmed JesusJesus healed so many people when He walked this earth; He healed them one-by-one, He healed them en masse, and yes, He still heals today. He healed the blind, He healed the crippled, and He healed the
spiritually deaf (as was the case with this servant of the high priest). Do you think that Jesus ever looked at them all and thought,
“There are so many blind, so many deaf, so many crippled...”, and was overwhelmed?
It’s Not RelevantIt is not a sin to be overwhelmed, however it is a sin if we allow that sensation to stop us from doing the will of God. Was Jesus overwhelmed? Maybe, but if He was, it didn’t slow Him down—He always was determined to do the will of His Father in Heaven.
Are You OverwhelmedTen million children living in horribly deficient conditions around the world are going to die this year. That’s about thirty thousand in just one day; or about 1 child every 3 seconds. I will speak for myself and tell you honestly that I am burdened by this fact…Are you? Do these numbers leave you numb?
StarfishHave you ever heard the story about the father and son walking along a beach strewn with starfish? The son, maybe 5 years old, picks up one starfish at a time and tosses it back into the ocean. The dad’s heart aches for his child and he says to him,
“Son, you can’t save them all.”“Yes daddy, I know, but I can save this one.” Is this the ‘faith of a child’ that Jesus was referring to when He said we should be like children? I think so. Adults are easily overwhelmed and subsequently blinded by vast figures, but a child’s vision in these circumstances seems to be more simply focused—a child can always seem to identify
the one thing they are able to do, and do it over and over again.
Are You Able? Are you able to see beyond that which overwhelms you? Do not let the ‘thing’ that overwhelms you turn into the excuse that prevents you from doing the will of God. God is so much bigger than our excuses.
