| My Baby Birds |
|
| |
A few years ago, in the springtime, my husband and son were cutting up an old truck, to be hauled away. As my son started to cut into the truck, he heard a noise coming from a crack, where he was cutting...
Low and behold, a robin had gotten into this crack and laid her eggs and they hatched. My son asked me, "what should he do with them?" I said, "you need to get them little birds out now, or you'll kill them from the heat of the torch!" So we took a pair of needle nose pliers and carefully removed four baby robins. They were the ugliest looking things I had ever seen! Long necks and bare naked...no feathers. I had no choice but to keep them alive, their home was going to be cut up...
I put the baby robins, in a shoe box and took them into the house.. I had made them a home, in a wicker basket, lined with with some old wash clothes. I tried to make them as comfortable as I could...well we did take their home and mother away from them...
Then it dawned on me....what do I feed them? They only looked, to be about a few days old. We had our children in the past, care for baby birds with worms, only to die the next day. I wanted the baby robins, to at least have a chance. I got on the Internet right away and googled "what to feed baby birds". I found a recipe of brewers yeast, cat food, strained chicken for babies, vitamins, water and I made a mush...
I used the back handle of a baby spoon and put a bit of food on it, to see what would happen. Oh my.. was I surprised, one of the baby robins, grab the food so fast, I though he was going to eat the spoon too! I thought to myself, this might just work so I fed the others. When their little bellies were full. they all went to sleep. I would get up at dawn and feed them, like their mother would. It looked like they had a chance, when two days had past and they were still alive....
Then one day, after a week or so had passed. I noticed that the baby robins were looking weird. I told my husband, they didn't look that baby robins at all...So back to the Internet laughing and wondering, what kind of baby birds I was taking care of. I found out, I didn't have baby robins, I had baby starlings. The joke was on me...Being the kind of person God made me, I loved those starlings just the same. I continued to care for my Darlin Starlins...
I had came into my office, where I was keeping the baby birds, to find themselves perched on everything, except their basket. I guess it was time for a cage. When I was searching on the Internet about the birds, I also found that people, had made pets out of the starlings. After reading the information, I thought I would keep two and let the other two go free...
I started to take them outside, to a dwarf pear tree and sat them on a branch. I would feed the baby birds there and leave them for a while. I would come back an hour later, to take them back in the house. I did this several times a day.. they really liked that pear tree...
One day after four hours had passed, I went out to feed the baby birds, to find out two where gone from the tree. My heart sunk, why was I gone so long? I called to the two of them...your supper is ready so come and get it! What a blessing to see them come, when I called them. They had flown out from a large tree, to my shoulders. They wanted their adopted mother to feed them...
Back in the house they went because I wasn't taking any more chances of them leaving again..Until God spoke to my heart. He told me, that those birds needed to be free. I took the birds out side the next day and fed them but never brought them back in the house. I kept calling them and they would come and eat and then leave. This went on for a few days...They started to leave me one by one. I was sad and joyful at the same time. More joyful because God gave me the opportunity to take care of His little birds......My Darlin Starlins.....

Restore, here is how I got your picture. <------(Click there.) The only thing I did not talk about is how I "reduced" the size of the picture.A later blog will explain that. Have Fun! (The picture I used to explain how I did it will take a while on dial-up to see, but it will be worth it, I promise!) |
