OzThoughts Friday 9th May 2008 As I read John Chapter 16 I feel like I am getting a little confused. Maybe it is because I am tired. However confused I am, I am sure the Disciples were even more confused. Here is their Master, their Rabbi and their friend saying things about seeing him no more and being sad but then glad and the world being glad then sad. They ask among themselves “What does this mean?” Jesus knew of their confusion and tells them the Holy Spirit will guide them into the truth of understanding. John 16:12-16 (The Message)12"I still have many things to tell you, but you can't handle them now. 13But when the Friend comes, the Spirit of the Truth, he will take you by the hand and guide you into all the truth there is. He won't draw attention to himself, but will make sense out of what is about to happen and, indeed, out of all that I have done and said. 14He will honour me; he will take from me and deliver it to you. 15Everything the Father has is also mine. That is why I've said, "He takes from me and delivers to you.' 16"In a day or so you're not going to see me, but then in another day or so you will see me." PRAYER: Father God, thank you for Jesus and all he teaches us in his words and in his actions. Thank you too for your Holy Spirit that Jesus promised to the Disciples but who is active today revealing your truth to us. Amen. Gracious Spirit, dwell with me; I myself would gracious be, And with words that help and heal Would thy life in mine reveal; And with actions bold and meek Would for Christ, my Saviour, speak. Truthful Spirit, dwell with me; I myself would truthful be, And with wisdom kind and clear Let thy life in mine appear; And with actions brotherly Speak my Lord's sincerity. Tender Spirit, dwell with me; I myself would tender be; Tender in my love for men, Wooing them to God again; With compassion pure and sweet Lead the lost to Jesus' feet. Mighty Spirit, dwell with me; I myself would mighty be, Mighty so as to prevail Where unaided man must fail; Ever by a mighty hope Pressing on and bearing up. Holy Spirit, dwell with me; I myself would holy be, Separate from sin, I would Choose and cherish all things good; And whatever I can be Give to him who gave me thee.
