| ALL my heart? |
|
| |
I belong to an exercise club and try to go there three times a week. I stick mostly to the treadmill, which can get very boring unless you have something to occupy your mind... you know what I mean? So I have this mp3 player with christian music on it and a great pair of earphones. I am able to stay on that treadmill for an hour or more at a time. These treadmills are really cool, they have all kinds of bells and whistles so to speak. I pretty much stick to the manual controls, you know pick my own speed, usually its 3.0 (not sure what that means), pick my own elevation, usually that's 0 (and I know exactly what that means hehehe), and my own time which is usually 30 minutes. I do this two times. These machines also have this neat little heart monitor. I don't usually pay attention to it, but the other day I did, and I was surprised by what I saw.... more of this part of the story later.
For those of you that don't know, I am on the worship team at my church. I am also training up my daughter to worship as well, and we have had many conversations of what it means to worship. Worship of course should be and can be done in all sorts of ways. Which ever way you choose to worship, it must come from your heart. You must feel it, to mean it, and it must be given freely. I wasn't sure if she completely understood me, but now I think she did. She wrote a song for me for my birthday. It was full of a whole bunch of "I'm a great mom stuff" which is really cool for a mom to hear, but it had this one verse in it that I'd like to share with you all... "You told me to feel the music when I sing,
how to float on top of it while it takes me to the King. You taught me to sing with more than just my voice worshiping our Lord helping others to rejoice."
Isn't that lovely? Anyways back to the exercising... the other evening I was on the treadmill and had not started listening to my music yet, but was watching my heart rate. It was at a steady 126. The speed was a steady 3.0, and the elevation was at 0, just like normal. Once the treadmill is going a certain speed you have no choice but to speed up or slow down to match it, or else you find yourself in trouble. That's why my heart rate was so steady, the speed and elevation was steady, so my movements were steady as well. Then I started my music... my worship music. Then things began to happen... to my heart that is. Do you know... that with each song , and each part in the song, with every dynamic... my heart rate changed? What? My speed was the same, my elevation was the same, my movements... exactly the same, but my heart rate matched what I was feeling with every song I was worshiping to. It amazed me, at first I didn't believe it. I took my earphones off and watched my heart rate and it steadied itself again to 126. Put them back in and my heart rate started following the music again, as long as I was listening and feeling joy when there was joyful noise, and peace when the music was peaceful... my heart rate changed accordingly, slowing down or speeding up to match what I was feeling, not what my legs were doing. Thinking about it, it makes sense... I guess. But I was thrilled to see it with my own eyes. Anyways it brought to mind this verse... 9:1 I will give thanks unto Jehovah with my whole heart; I will show forth all thy marvellous works. 9:2 I will be glad and exult in thee; I will sing praise to thy name, O thou Most High. and...
12:30 and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. and...
12:33 and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is much more than all whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices. and...
10:27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself. Isn't our God AWESOME!!!!

| Fun and interesting post Robin! It actually seemed more like a compound post, or two posts in one, with that part in the middle about the song your daughter wrote you. Very nice! (That alone was star-worthy in my book!) ....star! (but it coulda been 2! lol) |

Very good lessons learned and thanks for sharing them w/us Robin! 4:23But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth: for such doth the Father seek to be his worshippers.
Without the same words of the verse above, you are teaching your daughter to worship in Spirit, to feel the music, and let the mood, the attitude, the spirit, manifest through the spirit, to the soul and together manifest through the physical to worship God with our trinity being, Spirit, Soul, and Body ! Without our whole being getting involved it's "half-hearted", "giving mental assent", "going through the motions", The Father can tell the difference when we bring our offering of praise !
And you Robin already are a worshipper, in Spirit, and Truth (from the heart) !!!

Hi Rob I think it's cool that you have invested worship teaching into your daughter. One of my sayings is " plant a seed, watch it grow" which applies here. One thing I see more and more with worship is that it is so important in our lives. I always knew it was important but I see more lately just how important it is. We are all called to worship but Satan tries hard to stop us doing it through various means. I "think" :-) that our worship increases in value as our circumstances get worse. I find it much easier to worship when conditions in life are pleasing but when adversity comes then it doesn't come as easy. Just a thought. Anyway way to go mom! Good legacy to leave behind. |

| This is really a neat thing to have realized! I love to sing, and am on the praise team as well. Music in itself is so calming, but when we sing it to the Lord and for the Lord, everything just seems to click, doesn't it? Thanks for sharing this with us. |

First I would like to say how blessed you are as a mother. To have a daughter that loves the Lord and to think that she learned it from you. That says a lot about your Christian lifestyle. I hate to sound negative, but I have seen some parents actually drive kids from the faith. You should be thankful and honored at the same time that God would use you to sow into the life of your daughter.
The other thing I would like to say is that we are created to worship. Everything we do is worship. I t hink that is cool about your heart rate reacting. Perhaps we all did more worshipping we could shed some extra poundage. :) |

Norman... I completely understand and find it a struggle also, but knowing others understand and struggle too at times makes it a bit easier for me and I hope for you also. "way to go mom" wow... you sure know how to make a mom feel good!! Thanks Norman I appreciate you very much.
Tammy... thank you so much Tammy, you have become such a good friend. I love the way you seem to see me just as I am and... it's still okay... you know? There's a freedom there that's hard to find with anyone but Christ. I really appreciate you. Grace to you my friend. Robin |

Deb...Yes it does, I use to do the music thing before Christ and well... let's just say it never felt right. Now though it does. When it's all about Him and not about me, that's when I see Him the best... everything is so clear then. Why would anyone want to do anything different huh? Thanks for the comment. Bless you.
Brother Todd... Thank you so much, but the credit for my daughter goes to God, she has alwasy seemed to have a real depth and Godly understanding even from a very young age. It made parenting very easy. I have learned a lot from her as well. Thanks for the compliment though, It makes a mom feel good to be told they are doing good with their kids. Yeah the excersising...I need to be careful there or I might find myself sitting on my couch all day worshipping instead of actually going to the gym.... hehehe, I wonder what my husband would say if I used that as an excuse? :0) But even so more worship is always a good thing. Thanks for your encouraging words. Peace to you. |
