Wow...powerful article....and at times, I felt like they were talking about us!

I think the "tug" Steve felt was Divine Grace acting directly on his spirit, when he sensed the intellectual aspect of his being was no longer satisfactory for his beliefs or lack thereof. Hopefully this experience can lead him to bigger and better things.

Yup.  So many people use their intellect to ignore the homing beacon, if you will, that each of us has to find the Lord.

I've seen it too many times where a misunderstanding, or worse yet, a BAD example of a "Christian" has a person throwing the baby out with the bathwater, and going agnostic (no proof helps me, and I'm smart, so I will just say I dunno and stop searching) or atheist (I see proofs that God can't be real because of science, suffering or self and my logical mind thinks that it must be the logical conclusion.  After all, there are BAD things in this world and it's pretty complex.  Some 2000 year old book couldn't explain it all, so it's ALL wrong).

I only worry about people like this because they are the seeds sown in the weeds sometimes - they like the warm fuzzy feeling, but forget that when the times get tough and once again write it off - "Hey, my new self-help program didn't take away the bad stuff, I want my $19.95 back!".

I pray for the conviction and the turning of this person and all like him.

Love is undeniably the greatest and most powerful force in the world.  It can overcome ANYTHING.  And God is Love.  If you get the equation and feel that "tug" you've experienced God.

I savor reading these stories.  In fact, just a couple of weeks ago I came across a book review for "The Soloist" by Steve Lopez, a book he wrote about the homeless man and musical prodigy, living on Skid Row.  There was an immediate connection reading this because those streets are so familiar to us.  The book review can be found here: http://www.latimes.com/features/books/la-et-book21apr21,0,2266438,print.story

And that African word ubuntu is my favorite.  You can't be human alone, just like you can't be Christian alone.  Even our Lord tells us He's in our midst when 2 or 3 are gathered in His name.  For all those who say they don't need to come to church because they can pray to God alone at home, this is the part they forget.  You experience God in community.

Thank you so much for posting this article.  I started the day off very depressed after reading about the earthquake in China and the thousands of people killed.  This has definitely put me in a better state of mind.  Our prayers are with the suffering.
