Russia wasn't much affected by the breakdown of the Soviet Union in contrast to the small countries that broke off to become independent. That's one of the reasons. Its changes weren't as radical. As for the church, there are denominations, but all of that is so new to us that I believe it is easier for us to conquer - for the young generation at least. Dear Cathy, knowing Ukraine, I don't think Yulia is active in church at all. My best guess is she is Orthodox, which is a very old, concervative denomination that has been and still prevails in Ukraine. It is viewed more like a tradition. And an ordinary person cannot be an elder in such a church - you have to go through certain schooling and earning of a religious title... I don't know of the details though. One word: the Ukrainian Orthodox church is VERY different. May God be with Ukraine* Peace! |
