The levees are breaking!
Causing the largest natural disaster in U.S. history, Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast on 29 August with its eye hitting about 55 km east of the city. Although the storm initially brought more destruction to other areas along the Mississippi and Louisiana coast, several levees protecting New Orleans failed the following the day, and the city, about 80% of which is below sea level, filled with water.
The floods may have killed thousands, stranded many more, and triggered a massive relief and evacuation effort.
Numerous studies had warned of this catastrophic scenario, and as it played out, many scientists watched with anger and frustration. "It's easy to do studies. Sometimes it's hard to act upon them," says Rick Leuttich of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, who has helped model how a hurricane could flood New Orleans. "We've had plenty of knowledge to know this was a disaster waiting to happen."
This is how the story read in Science Magazine, September 9,2005 a story that many of us have probably forgotten.
As we think about all the homes that have been destroyed, the jobs lost, the separated families and the lives taken many of us are saying “Nothing more tragic can ever happen”
but for your sake and mine “ I pray you don’t believe that!”
In all truth you and I are facing one of the greatest storms in our generation , and this storm has been ragging for along time, and is getting worse everyday!
I am talking about the Levees of the “Church” the Body of Christ” these are not the weak levees of New Orleans , but these are the Levees of the Men and Women of God who have become weak and feeble in the Church.
Time and time again we have been Mandated to guard the church and keep it strong , but unfortunately many have become powerless and have given into the beating waves of life!
1:4 And, being assembled together with [them], commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, [saith he], ye have heard of me. 1:5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. 1:6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? 1:7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. In this passage of scripture during the early Church, we see Jesus giving the command to the Disciples , “He tells them and us to “Wait for the promise of the father” which is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit” this promise of the Baptism of the Spirit is the Spirit that helps us to stand strong and firm as we go out into the highways and hedges ,as we speak the Truth in the church to keep it strong and stable from the error of the venomous waves that Satan throws!
We also see in verse seven the unspoken warning “That it’s not for you to know the time nor the season” (JUST KNOW THAT IT’S A WARNING!) telling us that without this kind of power “You can do nothing”! (Why else would we need power if something wasn’t coming?)
We would do well if we take the example of the church of old:
They were:
Submissive, Willing, and humble
You and I can protect the levees from breaking down if we would heed the warning and use the Power that was given to us, let us go back and humbly and willingly submit ourselves to the Brick Mason of the Levees!
