Tonight our In His Shoes group went to see Red Dog Howls at the El Portal Theater in North Hollywood. The play is written by Alexander Dinelaris, directed by Michael Peretzian, and stars Broadway actress Kathleen Chalfant. In 1915, a terrible secret was buried. Now, half a world away and a century later, it is about to be discovered. Alexander Dinelaris's Red Dog Howls tells a gripping story of the generations that follow a survivor of the Armenian Genocide. That’s the blurb I read about the play before going to see it but didn’t really think much of it. Sure, it was attention grabbing, but still, I really went in with zero expectation. Upon leaving my seat at the theater I will honestly say I was touched to the core. Amidst the pain and suffering I witnessed on stage, I was overflowing with love and joy at the end. Resurrection comes after death! As our group was walking out of the theater, I spotted the playwright, Alex, and thankfully we all had the opportunity to tell him how much his work meant to us. He was emotional too! Boy, there was so much love in that room. This is such a beautiful story of healing… The production runs for only 4 weeks! You don’t want to miss this. IT’S THAT GOOD!!!
