| Drift or Direct? That Is Our Question. |
|
| |
3:13 Brethren, I count not myself yet to have laid hold: but one thing `I do', forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, 3:14 I press on toward the goal unto the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Drifting is dangerous. It is not random as many suppose. There are strong currents of self-destruction slowly moving the drifter farther and farther away from the dock of peace and happiness into the rough, dark waters of misery and pain. The drifter, often unknowingly, blindly obeys unseen forces -- compulsions, peer pressure, evil desires, mental viruses, orientations, and feelings. Drifting is bondage, not freedom.
To be directed is to steer your life -- to go against the currents, against the unseen destructive forces. The directed person is awake, aware of the invisible compulsions toward evil both in society and within himself. He or she sees peace, joy, love, and righteousness and aggressively aims his life in that direction. He or she fights consistently and overcomes the bondage of self-destructive currents.
Anybody can drift with society and inner desires and thus be enslaved. Only the most courageous and self-directed people will stand up within and fight the current! Drifting or directed -- which are you? |

Influences come in many forms. Jesus said be aware that some influences come in angel attire that are as deadly to the mind as the bad looking kind. (kingdomwithin translation)
Taking responsibility for our thoughts is good advice. Just keep in mind that Satan can't get us all to hop to the bars of this world. He has to camoflaugh himself to get control for many of us.
Better to walk thankful to God and TRUST our heavenly Father to finish the work he has prepared for us in due time and not to look at the things we see in the mirror.

| Like Bubbles has mentioned (coupled with what I have mentioned). I've turned my boat around. Instead of going with the flow like all the other turkeys seem to be doing, I'm going against it. And like so many things in life, its harder to go against it than with it. |

Steve,
I would like to consider that I am directed, but as you pointed out a few eye openers, I worry I may be drifting, Thank you, I will consider this a warning beacon to get myself "re-directed" Thank you Brother, I sooo needed this today! |

| Stevie: It is so important that we turn our boat around, as you said, and go against the flow of our 21st Century society! |

| Tammy: I have to constantly watch myself. It is so easy to slip from being directed by God to drifting with our culture, if I am not very very careful. |
